Dismantling procedure for camera

Hi, rocker button now completely failed so I'm trying to dismantle the beast to get at it. Have removed all accessible crosshead screws (2 each side, 4 underneath, 2 - probably irrelevant - from flash head), also the battery hatch, and the body shells can now be pried apart slightly at the sides. However something is holding it together at mid-axis. Are there further screws under labels/viewfinder surround/etc? Any advice welcome - I don't want to wreck it with brute force. Superb camera btw!

Re: Dismantling procedure for camera

Oh how fun, yep when I dismantled one of my old dead kodak digital cams - same thing, I'd removed all the screws but still struggled to open it up. Yes, the body is also "snapped" together with a couple of fittings. And after much futzing & prying, yah me. Holds up 2 plastic halves & one former camera guts. Yea was a good camera, it had lived a long & happy life, even after the super cheapo battery compartment door fell off, um, after being dropped maybe.

Start button jammed

if it got jammed you can either apply pressure on the button whilst trying to move it so that it unlocks from the position it is. that is the only way without dismantling the whole thing.

Fell into water, still can used, but got watermark inside lens.

You can use some absorbents to dry off the residual moisture but the marks might remain due to stain of the water. So try to use a hair dryer to warm the camera very carefully. Once there is no trace of water, but the marks remain on the lens , then it is important to remove the lens assembly after dismantling the camera so as to clean the lens using proper lens cleaner.
Attempt only if technically inclined and with proper tools.

Leans moror cleaning

Your camera doesn't have a mirror it uses an electronic viewfinder/LCD, also the lens is fixed so without complete dismantling of the camera the sensor can not be cleaned as with a "conventional" DSLR. I'm going to suggest if you feel the sensor requires cleaning I'd look at the front lens element and clean this with a lens cloth, the LCD screen can be cleaned with a lens cloth as well use a cloth not tissue.

My lens is stuck open, camera says lens error, restart camera. but it won't restart. pushed on/off button, changed batteries, switch modes no luck. any ideas?

There's some grit or dust in the lens/zoom mechanism.

Probably needs dismantling to clear. If you go to a repairer, get a quote first and check the value of your camera, make sure its an economically viable repair.

No power. Lens 'protruding'.

There are six other things to try besides shaking, tapping, and bashing listed on the following blog page. Especially try the one starting the camera with the memory card removed. Do not recommend dismantling as your chances are very slim in repairing that way:

Lumix DMC- FZ30 - screen is black when camera is turned on

Check if you have activated the Electronic Viewfinder (EVF). Press the EVF/LCD button to switch to the LCD screen. If this fails to solve the problem, change the mode dial to Auto (the red camera icon) or 'P' and try again. If even this does not work, check with the nearest authorized service center.
