Question about Onkyo TX-SR705 Receiver

Onkyo 805 : Display not on, but everything else works.

I have an Onkyo 805 receiver and it has worked great for the last 6 months. However, yesterday I powered it on with the same Harmony remote that I have always used, and the display on the unit did not turn on. However, the sound still comes through fine. I noticed this when playing ps3 using HDMI, xbox360 using HDMI.

Obviously this causes me great concern, but I'm hoping there is someone who knows about these things and can set me on the path to a resolution.

Thank you for you time and your technical prowess on this!!

I had the same problem. i replace the two resistors and my display came on but it is displaying random numbers. hard to explain, but it constantly runs through 0's and the letters pth-00000000. I read somewhere else that sometimes a diode zenor may need to be replaced. Anyone know anything on this?

The good news is that this is a common problem and can probably be fixed with some replacement lamps from Radio Shack. The bad news (you just knew it was coming...) is that the lamps are usually a pain to replace. Remove the top of the case and there should be a plastic cover over the area of the display. It may just snap off by pressing on some tabs. Inside there will be some small light bulbs that are the backlight for the display. If they burn out, it can't be seen unless you shine a bright light in through the front of the display. Carefully unsolder the bulbs and take one to Radio Shack. Look for a 12v bulb of approximately the same size. If you can't find one, buy one of the 12v bulbs with the red or green plastic panel mounts and remove the lamp from its case. Solder in the new lamps and you're good to go!

I have a onkyo tx-sr507 and it works great the only problem is the setup feature for the unit doesn't show up on my tv it only shows up on my receiver can anyone help me figure this out my cousin has...

A simple composite video connection from its Monitor Out to the appropriately-selected input on your TV may resolve that.

Or, from the manual...

"While the Pure Audio listening mode is selected, the video circuitry is turned off and only the HDMI OUT outputs video signals."

I had the same problem at 1 year after purchase. I was upset. In addition to looking here, I also emailed the company. They took a month to get back to me, but their solution worked perfectly.

"Try resetting the unit by pressing VCR/DVR and the standby/on button at
the same time on the front of the unit while it is turned on. The unit
will display CLEAR and shut down. All settings will be erased. "

All my components connect without any problem now. Hope this helps.

Onkyo TX-DS 595 receiver surround channel unrealiable

How you power off the amp won't hurt it generally. I used to fix ONKYO amps under warranty, and I can tell you now, it will be full of dry solder joints. Take you unit to your local repairer, and they will resolder all the offending PCB's inside. This type of repair will fix 99% of strange audio noises and cutting in and out etc. for ONKYO recievers. Otherwise this is quite a good product.

Bose 901 hookup with Onkyo SR 805 and Onkyo M282 amp and 901 EQ/

The good news. I have a setup similar to what I think you're trying to do and it works great!

The Onkyo M-282 stereo amp for the 901's is the perfect solution. Run it with the Active EQ between the receiver Front L&R Pre-Outputs ** and the 901's amp channels.

**Onkyo SR805 Pre-Out Front >>> Bose EQ Amplifer IN
Bose EQ Amplier OUT >>> Onkyo M-282 IN

Set the Input Level on the back of the Onkyo to MAX. The receiver controls everything just fine after you run through your level setup routine again.

I was looking a the 12v triggers on both units and it looks like you only have a Zone 2 trigger so that wouldn't work for turning on your M-282. I guess you're going to have to turn it on and off the old fashioned way, like I do mine.

Hi I have an Onkyo TX-SR875. The AV receiver display panel has gone, so I reset it to factory defaults to see if it would bring it back - it didn't. Worse can't now see the on-screen setup menu to setup...

This is a common problem on onkyo receivers like the 805, 875 etc. The front panel display board has 2 faulty resistors(marked 9304 & 9310) which can blow out easily. Replacing them with some very basic soldering, resolved the issue for me.

ONKYO TX-SR805 Display screen does not light up.

Resetting the unit MAY work, however you will reset everything to factory and have to set it all up again. If resetting does not work, sounds like you will be looking for your local, friendly rrepair shop. Onkyo carries a two year warranty on these units, hopefully yours is still under. If not I would contact ONKYO directly because it seems they have had A LOT of problems with the screen on the 805 and 875 models

'phones engaged' no sound

Well,
My onkyo receiver was keep displaying "Phones Engaged" and no sound.
All I did was plugged in a phones plug and remove it and for the last 2 weeks there is no problem.
I just happened to have a phone plug (without the actual headphone or wires) and that seems to fix the problem.
Hope it will work you all of you as well.
Good luck.

Onkyo 805 zone 2 problem

I just figured out what I was doing wrong last night. On the 806 at least, when zone 2 is not powered (receiver is set to act) there is a separate volume control 'level' that is on the receiver a couple buttons right of the zone 2 button. By default this level appeared to be set to -50db. As soon as I turned up this level sound came out of my zone two.
