Question about HP Scanjet 4070 Flatbed Scanner

Reloading from the original CD and HP Director does not

The HP Director is not in the HP software folder, thus is not being recognized by the scanner. The CD and the computer thinks everything is good to go. I can find HP Image Zone from the Add/Remove in the Control Panel but it does not appear in the Program File folder or the HP folder.

    the computer thinks the software is loaded and in the correct folder but the scanner doesn't pick it up and it is not in the HP folder where it should be.

The drivers of the scanner is not correct one, you need to un-install it and download drivers from HP web site by clicking HERE and then re-install drivers along with software.

disconnect your scanner... install the scanner driver completely... run scanner in compatibility mode... and administrator... then plug in scanner...

My scanner is not working. Can't open HP director on my laptop. I tried to reinstall CD that came with it, but " more recent version installed" Printer and copier work fine.


Here are some diagnostics.
1. Go to control Panel and then to scanners & camera.
2. look for your scanner there.
3. if you find your scanner there try to scan from the wizard and you will be able to scan you docs.

To Reinstall the Hp Director....
1. first uninstall the HP director software using the removal utility located in your cd...

The uninstaller on the Internet is newer and works better than the one on the CD-ROM. Use this method only if the Internet version is not available. Follow the steps below to use the CD-ROM version only if you cannot get the regular uninstall to work correctly and cannot access the Internet:
  1. Leave the USB cable disconnected from the all-in-one.
  2. Insert the all-in-one CD-ROM into the computer. Cancel or close any installation windows that appear.
  3. Right-click the Start button, and then click Explore . This will open Windows Explorer.
  4. In the pane on the left, locate the CD-ROM drive letter that contains the all-in-one CD-ROM.
  5. There are two different versions of the software for some of these models. Use the file path that pertains to your version of the all-in-one software.
    • Early versions of the HP Officejet 6100 and PSC 2100 and 2200 series: Double-click the file hposcr01.exe , located in the Drivers\Uninst\language (ENU for English, ESN for Spanish, FRA for French, or PTB for Portuguese) folder of the CD-ROM.
    • The newer software version: Double-click the file Cleanall.bat , which is located in the Util\CCC\Cleanup folder of the CD-ROM.
    ONCE THE SOFTWARE IS COMPLETELY REMOVED.RESTART THE PC AND TRY TO INSTALL THE HP DIRECTOR SOFTWARE FROM THE CD.

Did you get an error message on your PC screen? Or on the printers screen?
I understand you have uninstalled & re-installed your printer software a few times. If each time you installed & you used the HP CD you can stop using that CD. There can only be three reasons why your all-in-one fails to scan. Yes one is re-install the software. However you do not use your CD from HP. You use more current software from HP. Which you can get directly from HP & allowing HP to scan for your (connected & powered on printer). Click on the link below.

If this new software fails to load HP director & your scanner still fails there is one last thing that can cause your scanner from failing. I know this all too well because it happened to me the week of April 14th. In my case, after five uninstalls & six installs. I called HP. It was strange, I knew more than the tech at HP. All in all my Windows did not have some basic files in windows system & in system32 folders. It's impossible to pull the correct files off the windows CD because HP did not know the file names that should be in windows system & system32 folders. I had no choice but to do a fresh clean install of window XP. This is what you may have to do as well. The biggest difference between us is I have a spare HP printer. Different model but still an all-in-one. When I hooked up the second printer & installed the software directly from the link I posted above, the all-in one also failed to scan. The odds of two HP printer having the same problem is high.
Once I finished installing windows & updated windows complete I went back to the HP's link & installed the online software. Everything is back to running as it should. No more scanner failures & no errors. HP director loaded.
Sorry mablekeats, no quick fix! In regards to your printer, if you follow what I have done you're printer should be just fine.
There is not always one way to fix anyone problem.
Every PC is different.

H P Director not working


hi yesjay,

I've seen this exact same problem before. What I deduced from that experience is that the Readiris software takes over the redirector function of the HP Director service. The only way we got the HP Director to function again was to:

1.) Uninstall Readiris
2.) Uninstall the HP printer
3.) Reinstall the HP printer without installing Readiris

This resulted in the HP director service working properly again, but with the user unable to use the character recognition functionality provided by Readiris.

ADD A DEVICE????


Remove the old and reinstall the new. First go to Control Panel/Add Remove Programs and remove the old software package. HP has a software cleaning utility to *really* remove all the old driver files. i suggest you run through that utility, Then install the new drivers/software for the new device.
