Sorry it took so long to help you. You should have returned the Clock/Radio to the place of purchase for exchange. The Clock/Radio has had problem with component failure. This is probably happen during its shipping from china to the USA. This does happen unfortunately. Shipping can be the cause of many problem with electronic equipment. Thank you for using FixYa and have a nice day.

Appliances plugged into the mains cause interference in the fm signal which means radio off if appliances in use. Also interference if Bose iPod plugged into mains next to radio.

You can buy an AC line conditioner, they range from cheap and useless to expensive and exotic, which is able to filter interference coming over the power lines. Simply plug that into the wall, and your radio into the filter, and there should be an improvement.

You can also try plugging the radio into a different outlet, making sure the outlets are wired properly, and try moving the radio to a new location further away from the source(s) of interference.

My radio stopped working after a power surge tripped the breaker for the outlet it was plugged into.

I have had several different makes of clock radios and all said that it was battery back up for power failure
none worked and all settings had to be redone
power surges do not trip breakers as they are in effect a fuse to prevent damage to the wiring in a dead short situation or when a unit fails
even surge protectors will still pass power after a surge but will no longer protect against another surge

The old Sharper Image went bankrupt several years ago. The new Sharper Image does not provide support for old Sharper Image products. You might be able to find a similar product available from the new Sharper Image.

The Wave Radio uses the AC power cord as an antenna. Perhaps the two outlets are wired differently regarding ground and hot.

Time speeds up on alarm clock

Usually clocks use the frequency of the AC supply to keep time, a synchronous motor was used in the old motorized clocks. If all the outlets eventually go back to one incoming supply, they all share the same mains frequency.

If it is a quartz reference type, then temperature may be a factor - extremes of temperature will cause deviation in the main oscillator. Otherwise, time appears to be passing at a different rate in that room!

old LED clocks did not have a crystal, they had a counter that counted the 60 cycles power, an intermittent connection will create extra pulses that will be counted. That will make it run fast.

it possible the outlet makes an intermittent connection (loose plug, maybe) so that the clock intermittently switches to battery backup on a lousy quartz crystal timebase that runs too fast during these periods? Remove the battery & see if the clock resets to 12:00 periodically.

Emerson Smartset Clock Radio setting for everyday alarm

You will need to reset the Clock/Radio's microprocessor. To do this you must unplug the Clock/Radio and remove the internal battery (CR2430). Let the Clock/Radio set without any power source for at least 2 hours. Then put the internal battery back in the Clock/Radio and plug it in to the a/c outlet. Test to see if the Clock/Radio functions have returned to normal. If the function have not returned to normal, you will need to replace the internal battery. Then let the Clock/Radio again set with out power for a period of at least 2 hours. after a 2 hour period, put the new battery in the Clock/Radio and Plug it into the a/c outlet. Test the functions to see if the microprocessor has reset to normal operation. If you are still having a problem with the Clock/Radio's operations , you will have to give the Emerson customer support a call. The Telephone number for the Customer support is 1-800-898-9020. You can call them between the hours of 7am-5pm CT. Give them the make and model number of your Clock/Radio and ask them for assistance with your problem. Considering all power is good, check for broken or fractured solder joints at interconnects between display and main PCB on BWR-I.
Check cold solder joints on U302 and U301(IC302, IC301).

Good Luck.
