Hi have been using a Fuji FinePix 6800 for about 4 years with fantastic results, but recently the camera has just gone dead with the lens in the open position it wont turn on or anything ( was,nt dropped or knocked) it still wont do anything when its plugged in on the charger but the red charging light is on ! any ideas ?
Thanks Mac
My 6800 has also died whilst in use. It will no longer charge a battery or work on battery power. I did momentarily get it to work on cable but when i pulled the wire it died again. I have checked it with a battery of known good state and still nothing. Having taken it apart to look for obvious scorching or a loose cct board plug i found nothing. I did notice a tiny battery on one of the boards, i don't know the impact of this failing but i would'nt have thought that it could be too severe. Either way it does not look too promising. My overall feeling is that one of my batteries has failed and blown something in the camera. My 6800 has also died whilst in use. It will no longer charge a battery or work on battery power. The battery may well not be making contact. On low voltage high current circuits the contact resistance is critical. Th.e actual contacts which would seem to need to be looked at are not only those of the battery but the matching contacts in the camera. I would reccomend you to acquire a 'Fiber Glass' cleaning pencil and a small quantity of switch cleaner, whith which to damp the point of the pencil.
this solution cleared a simlar problem on my camera.

Try the battery contacts, give them a rub with sandpaper in case they are tarnished.will camera work when on the charger,if it does you may have faulty battery

there is a option in the menu that turns the camera off after 2min. and then after that it is hard to get started.I took out the rechargable batteries and installed new duracell batteries, and it started and then I went to the menu and disabled the powersaver option.
Are you sure the computer s 'seeing 'the camera this time.
USB can be a bit iffy.
Leave the camera plugged in but switched off.
Repbbit the computer and switch on camera
Check 'My computer' to see in there is a 'New drive' indicated.
Muck in the works probably.
Ho;ld the camwra face down and give a gebtle tapping with a pencil on the side to see if it dislodges.
Sending it away to Fuji could be expensive.
The problem will just be a loose/damaged connector in the area where you are pressing, should be able to be easily fixed by anyone who knows how to open it up. Try your local camera repair place and get them to quote - it shouldn't be much labour or parts.
Hope this helps :)
