Question about Yamaha RX-V663 Receiver

1 Answer

Voices drowned out by background noise.

I recently purchased a Sony Bravia television, Yamaha Rx-v663 receiver and Kef 3005 speakers. I am also hooked up to hi def cable. My problem is that all the speaking volume is drowned out by the background action. I've tried increasing center speaker volume but the background action also raises with the speaking volume. Any suggestions?

We feel your pain! The music, etc. is soo loud that we often don't know what the people are saying. We are missing out on a lot. Isn't there some way we can let the movie/television industry know that this is very annoying? These "special effects" did not used to be so overwhelming! I will continue to watch for a solution. Thanks.

A question.  Is your center channel of the same brand/type as your left and right?  Sometimes speaker coloring and drive levels can cause a major difference in timbre and stearing.  If the speak is different, you my have to use an onboard eq (if available) to change
the sound of the center.  Hope this helps!

Not a suggestion, but I hope there is a solution.
Recently bought an LG HDTV that has a setting that should increase the voice over the background. If it does, I can't notice the difference. I guess they can probably measure it electronic.
I've had your same complaint for years, without a good solution. Best so far is to use headphones.
I have no idea why film people add all the extra noise. Most of it is not even real.

Yamaha rx v663 receiver, turntable input

What you will need is a phono pre-amp, then you can run into the receiver with a line level input to an empty audio input on the receiver, you can try Radio Shack to obtain one.

Yamaha RX-V663 - HDMI doesn't work.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, a workaround:
  • as you posted, audio out of the DVD goes to the receiver;
  • HDMI out of the DVD goes to the Schaub Lorenz LCD.
Even if it were a compatibility issue or HDMI processor issue on the receiver, the above should get you going.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Audio but no video from Sony Blu-Ray w/ HDMI hookup to RX-V663

Okay...my first contribution to any forum but I have the same problem (Yamaha RX-V663 and Samsung Blu Ray) and found the solution. The problem is you probably have your HDMI cables from your DVD player and reciever connected to a DVI input on your TV. The DVI may have problems communicating--not HDCP compliant. My system was working great then I hit a button on my remote...just playing around. I think it was the pure audio and I turned off the receiver. After that, the audio worked but there was no video. After many frustrating hours, the fix was to unplug the HDMI and DVI cable then turn the power off, cycle the power again, and plug the HDMI and DVI cables back in (the DVI was the last cable plugged in, not sure if that matters). By unplugging everthing you've reset the communication between the HDMI components and the DVI TV.

See page 18 of the yamaha owners manual, second to last note on bottom right of the page. It says there may be a problem...

I also noticed that the yamaha reciever was sending 1080p (my older tv is 1080I) and that is why the video wouldn't display on the TV. You can see this in the video signal info screen, unfortunately there is no setting to switch it back, just recycle the cables and power and it should reset.

Uncredibly frustrating but I got my picture back!

Hooking up this receiver

I don't see why not. I have a 46" Sony Bravia HDTV that I have hooked up to my RX-V596.

Just use either the RCA out on your TV to the "TV " RCA audio in on the receiver, or if your TV has Optical or Coaxial Audio Out use those...
