Thanks. However, since my post the system is playing. I think it is related to the lubricant in the laser mechanism. I turned the box upside down to see if there were batteries (re: another potential solution). A combination of this action (I had NEVER turned it upside down before!) and some warmer temps in my house (above 50 F) may have been the solution. This may only be temporary, but I had never connected the intermittent issue with season and the aging (2000) lubricant.
Sounds like laser is dead as clicking sound is usually laser head fastly bouncing up and down trying to focus

Yes. The cd spins, and the display reads the number of tracks and duration. Opening the top (single cd player), I can make it click by depressing the "on" mechanism. I've cleaned the lens with IPA and cotton swab. This problem has been intermittent for about 1 year, but is now constant with new and recently working cds.
Hey Aoz3, I have the same problem- Is your unit still working?
put a disc in any of the 3 disc changer and push play it just makes a very loud clicking noise
