Question about PC Desktops
My Acer Travel Mate 290 got dropped by a Porter at a Hotel in Rome, now the screen has a slight glow but no image.I took it to a place the Hotel recommended, the guy said he had no speedy access to parts but could move all my memory to a new machine, which I purchased out of necessity as I was leaving Rome the next day and needed to be able to work.I'm now back home in melbourne and all the techs I know seem to be on holidays. The guy in Rome said something (poor english) about a card being broken, but I couldn't work out what he might have meant.Any suggestions
I was very impressed by Once In Rome travel company's personal service and follow through. During the planning process, my agent spent considerable time (at his off hours) discussing our objectives, our personal needs (and young son), and a variety of accommodation / activity options. Once In Rome travel company worked with our requests and provided an itinerary that was reasonable in terms of logistics while within initial budget; we later requested upgrades and they were able to make reservations despite limited supply of rooms at the hotels.
Here is their website address if you are interested.

The card he was referring to is the video card. Since this is a laptop you probably are not able to replace the video card. Most of the cards are integrated into the motherboard. Since the computer was dropped it would be hard to belive that this is the problem. If there is any chance of fixing this it will have to be done by a pro unless you are able to replace the board yourself.
