No sound coming from theater system for TV, DVD works fine

  • tcaira1 Feb 17, 2009

I have the same sound problem. DVD, Ipod work fine. The problem is I have to turn the volume to 35+ to hear any sound from the cable tv (HD /dvr) box. I have had the Philips for about a year and and half and no problems until now.

Is there a sub menu I could look for on the cisco DVR or on the tv.

    Thanks

I don't know if this will help but although I have a different system to listen to the tv through my 5.1 system before I got my new tv I had to switch the tv to external speakers or the sound would only come out the tv speaker

I just purchased a Yamaha RX-V465 AV Receiver, and I cannot get any sound out of it except for when I have Tuner selected. I have my OPPO CD/DVD player hooked up via HDMI and via the stereo analog audio...

Also the test tone is working OK (Setup / Speaker Setup / Test Tone)? Have you used automatic speaker setup with the supplied YPAO microphone?
For HDMI, you need to configure the receiver to "take" out the audio from HDMI. Go to Setup / Function Setup / HDMI / Audio and select "Amp" to route the audio to receiver, or "Amp+TV" for audio to go both to receiver and to TV. You can also check in Options Menu / Signal Info that receiver has recongnized the sound and what format it thinks it is in.

Humming noise through Tv speakers. Goes away if I mute sound?

If the noise is coming in through the onboard tuner then repair may the only option. If you have a DVD or VCR and can connect the line level inputs (look like stereo connections) then do so and use that input, if the sound persists there then it is likely the audio circuitry - also a repair item.
Bypassing the TV sound system involves connecting your cable box, DVD or VCR (using the tuner from that unit select channels) audio output to a stereo system and then the TV becomes a big monitor (picture only)

Channel selection

L1 and L2 are just line inputs. This unit does not have a tuner so there are no channels to select.
It requires you to be connected to a TV broadcast via a cable or satellite tuner box... and then would only record what ever channel you were viewing. The DVD is a player only.
It sounds like you should have purchased a DVD Recorder or a DVD/VCR Recorder. The players normally do not have a tuner. A Recorder should have an built-in digital tuner. Some also have the old NTSC tuner and may also have a QAM tuner.

see in the manual if theres a way to retune the wireless system most all units do have a little control someware where you can put your cars stereo on to a station with nothing on it and then you simply tune and tweek the adjustment so it sounds good. if you dont see it go to where you bought it or contact the service dept in the owners manual. Good luck
