IBM 25P2590 P4 micro motherbord

Hi
I have recently been given an oldish P4 machine, it's fitted with an IBM 25p2590 micro, skt 478 motherboard, the machine was supplied minus a cpu. Only skt 478 cpu I have to hand is a SL6WK 3.0 ghz Northwood, not being well up on IBM boards, is this board capable of running this cpu, as I am about to test the machine but I am dubious about fitting it to try?

Kind Regards
Pete Stott

I found nothing but items referencing updates and patches to existing servers and software to accomodate the situation you describe.. if you're still nervous try looking around on ibm.com/support or lenovo.com/support

CPU upgrade for Compaq SR1220NX Desktop Computer

Hi
The specs for this machine state that it is a motherboard with
"Socket 478 for Intel P4 Williamette and Northwood processors
Supports Intel Pentium 4 processor up to 2.8 GHz
Supports Intel Celeron processor up to 3.06 GHz (Prescott based Celeron with 533MHz FSB)"
In other words, any CPU that is not socket 478 ( a fairly old socket now) will not even fit on the board. You do not mention your current CPU so you need to compare it with the spec above to see if you can improve it. It is an old machine/motherboard, so your money might be better going towards a motherboard or system box upgrade.
Cheers

I have an old IBM Netvista 6794 pc with its original IBM motherboard that it came with P4 pc with a 2.0ghz cpu. Now I want to change the processor. My question is can a 3.6ghz or 3.4ghz p4 intel cpu work...

Unlikely, I would think that the best processor you could use would be a 3.0Ghz or maybe a 3.06Ghz. If you look at the motherboard part number you will be able to find out from the manufacturers what the fastest CPU is. A lot depends on the FSB on the mobo and the Bios version. You need a "Socket 478" processor I think you will find that the processors you are looking at are "Socket 775" ( this is the fitting socket for the processor) .

I have a ibm 3650m3 there is a lable on server "7945skt". what does it mean ?

while 3650 is the model, 7945-skt would then be the type. those details are used to identify the machines exact model / what parts it has inside.

Can i put a amd processors in a dell dimension

Short answer: NO.

Long answer: AMD processors have a different pin-arrangement than found on a Socket 478 motherboard, so they physically will not fit.
