SOURCE: White Smoke comming out of Briggs and Stratton 21 HP V2 engine.

The white smoke may have been caused by having water in the fuel, or fuel tank [due to condensation or exposure to rain and snow]. It may have been that the mower got tipped for cleaning purposes, blade inspection, etc. and oil from the low lying oil pan got into the piston.

Either way, I recommend installing a brand new spark plug and new gasoline [you can purchase a little gas siphoning hose for a dollar or so at any auto parts store] If you have gasoline left over in a can from last year it is safe to use it in your car as it mixes with lots of new gas, but not in your small mower tank as it is basically outdated fuel.

The oil is contaminated with water. Change oil and filter, if it has one.

SOURCE: I have a 18 hp briggs and stratton engine that will not start

A few more things to check.
1. The oil level. If the oil level is low the oil level sensor will ground the ignition.
2. Check the wiring from the seat safety switch to make sure it is connected.
3. Follow the black wires from the ignition control module to make sure none of them are chaffing and do not have a chassis ground.

If you still have problems disconnect ONE lead from the oil level sensor and see if you have spark. Most of the time these oil level sensors are the common failure.

SOURCE: 18 hp briggs & stratton intek i can get it

Check the choke, if that doesn't work the old gas may have left residue that is plugging your ports.

What kind of oil in a22 ton briggs & stratton motor

BRIGGS & STRATTON ENGINES:
For temperatures above 40? F use an SAE30W oil. Using multigrade oil may increase oil consumption. Using SAE 30W oil below 40? F will result in hard starting and possible engine
bore damage. For temperatures below 40 ? F use
an SAE10W-30 or SAE5W-30 oil. Oil capacity for the 6 H.P. engine is approximately 5/8 quart (20 ounces; 0.6 liter).
Refer to Briggs & Stratton engine owner's manual for additional
information.

Briggs & Stratton 18 hp motor oil is milky white

The usual cause of milky white oil is water. It can come from a cooling system if so equipped or oil contaminated with water before it was added to the motor. It's possible to get water in the crank case from condensation or water getting the motor if it's left out in the rain but this usually results in small amounts of water that easily evaporate when the motor gets hot. Use a good motor flush and change your oil then watch it closely. If it gets white again you'll have to find out where the water is coming from.

Briggs & Stratton Vertical OHV Engine 18 hp blowing white smoke engine run great but a lot of smoke and also have oil being spit out of the black hose that come from engine to the carb.

Check your oil.

If it is overfilled, milky, or smells like gas. Your going to need to change that ASAP. It sounds like the float has stuck in the past or is still sticking, and it has flooded the crankcase with gas, which has mixed with the oil. And because it is overfilled it comes through the breather hose into the carb. This also explains the smoke most probably because the oil is spewing in the carb through the breather and being burned.

I have a white mower with a 18 hp intek v-twin briggs & stratton motor. I was cutting the lawn and it loss power all of the sudden, then it died. Now it won't start. I changed the plugs, which looked...

back pressure is from a blocked muffler ( carbon build up)
if it is that old then it could be overheating from grass and dirt build up around the cylinder fins and not cooling properly
