Does any one no how to take a live recording off the device on to the coputer? sony software will not let me do this. if there is another program that will or any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks
I have a Sony MZ N710 and would like to be able to transfer MD recordings onto my mac. I have a few programmes (such as itunes) that might already be what I need in order do this but I don't know where to start to find out. I'm guessing I probably need to download something specifically for this... Thankyou....

The Software used to transfer the songs to the Net MD Walkman is OpenMG Jukebox Software.
Before installing the Software, click here to download the Device Driver for connecting to the Computer.
Once the Device Driver is installed, download and install the SonicStage CP Software by clicking here.
After installing the SonicStage CP Software, install the SonicStage Security update.
These Software will help you in transferring the songs from the Computer to the NetMD Walkman Player and vice versa.
Thanks for using FixYa.

No. Net MD's are physically incapable of digitally uploading their content to external devices. Digital transfers are a one-way street into the player: the original recording remains on the host pc and a copy is transferred onto the player.
There is no hack, no software and nothing else which will allow digital uploads as the hardware just isn't there to start with. The only way to transfer recordings is to record them from the headphone socket (set volume to maximum and turn digital signal processing off, or better still use the menu selection to set the headphone socket to LINE output).
You can't do this digitally, it's a fundamental hardware restriction in
the the NetMD specification and is to prevent music piracy.
Unfortunately it also catches anyone who has used the machine to record
The only way that you can transfer the
music is via an analogue audio patch lead. You can improve the quality of the analogue output though by setting the headphone output to line output. The MZ-N707 lacks this as standard but the circuitry is present and can be accessed by rebooting the machine as an MZ-N910 (see below).
that there is no way around this restriction: all NetMD
players/recorders completely lack the hardware needed to make digital
uploads to other devices so there is no hack or firmware mod to
overcome this issue.
The later (and far more expensive) HiMD
machines do not have this restriction but you still cannot use them to
upload material recorded on a regular MD to other devices. They will
only upload from a HiMD.

Ive used minidiscs for a long time an really worked for a minidisc computer solution. However Sony really commited suicide as far as limiting the format to non-computer usage. They've dont this on purpose, and its really led to flash players domination.
As far as a solution.. The only viable possibility is to get a usb sound card with an optical in. They can easily be found for $20. Then you can get flawless transfer from MD to PC. Only downside is that its limited to real time recording. But thats the best that is available for the time being outside the Sony software itself.
While holding down the Pause button, push Record. The display should blink the disc icon and REC. Then push the <<| until the display shows 001. Then push the pause button to start recording. This will start it from the beginning. You can use this feature to start recording at the beginning of any track you choose. You can download a manual for this machine at: www.minidisc.org
