You may want to go to the device manager by right clicking on My Computer and selecting properties. Then select the hardware tab. The device manager will list the categories of the installed hardware. Click on the DVD\C-ROM drives tab and see if it is listed. If it is, then you can uninstall it and then let windows reinstall the drive. If it is not, you may want to try to boot from a windows install CD. If it boots from a CD then most likely it is a driver issue and you may need to reinstall windows. If it will not boot from a CD then the drive may be dead.
If you need more help feel free to let me know.

Cheers

That would mean that the drive is dead and needs replaced. If it is under warranty, contact the manufacturer for an RMA number. If it is out of warranty, you can have a local computer shoppe order a replacement drive and install it for you.

    Best of luck

    Cheers

Go into system and roll back driver. If this doesn't work, go into hardware and remove it. Restart pc. It should try to reinstall. It may ask for driver. Have it ready.

My Acer Aspire 5100 Laptop wont detect the hard drive

If it works on another computer then either the ide cable in the acer is bad/loose at either end or the ide controller on the motherboard is bad. I would try a known good ide cable first as if this is the problem it is fixable alot cheaper than a motherboard. Hope this helps.

This tends to happen to some drives...do you leave a disc in the drive when shutting down the computer?

you will have to restart it and take out the disk, or click on the "removable drives" tab in "My Computer" and hit the right arrow

My Acer Extensa 5620Z DVD-ROM Driver wont open or operate

#1
first go to your system tray and click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon
** if it's not there you can skip this step
click on the icon and stop your dvd/cd drive

#2
There is an eject button on the side of your drive. not the disk eject button. this button will eject your drive from the computer. it should be on the right side of the drive. push this button and remove your drive.

#3
Inspect the drive for signs of damage.
Give it a few blows of air to knock any dust off it

#4
Reinsert the drive into your computer
After you do that Windows should recognize there is a drive there and little bubbles should pop up from your system tray. give it a minute to finish.

#5
Insert a disk and check to see if it is working properly

IF windows didnt recognize it and/or it still has no power, you most likely will have to replace your drive. but let me know what happened after you do this

Acer 5100 lost dvd/cd drive

Is the DVD drive listed in device manager under CD/DVD drives at all? If so, remove it and reboot. Windows might be able to re-detect and reinstall the drivers for it, but odds are the drive is bad. You can try removing the drive from the computer, and use compressed air to blow out the area where it connects to the laptop. Also check the connection on the DVD drive to make sure there isn't any physical damage, bent pins, etc.

Please try the instructions provided in the third post of this thread.

I am not allowed to copy/paste content from other websites and thus must link you to it in order to comply with the site's terms of service.

However, hopefully that will solve your problem. Otherwise, it will be very, very hard to find a driver for Matshita drives, since Panasonic (which makes the Matshita cd/dvd drives) apparently abandoned all drivers and firmware for drives not currently being manufactured.

Thank you, Please rate if this was helpful.
