Question about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 Digital Camera

The pictures are often too dark but sometimes too light. I have now found a work-around for this problem. It consists of doing the following:
* set the sensitivity to ISO 100
* set the flash to "A"
* take a picture with the lens cap on
* remove the lense cap and take your pictures - they should come out fine
I don't know why this works but I think that when the TZ1 does not have enough information to compute a shot, it will rely on information from previous shots. Taking a picture with the lens cap on may reset the information in the camera so that it does not rely on previous shots. Setting the ISO to 100 will prevent the over exposed shots as the software may sometimes choose ISO 400

I got a zs3 (very similar) on ebay with a similar problem. The only workaround seems to be, hold onto the shutter button for a long time so the sensor has time to find the exposure. I returned my used camera (bought on ebay) due to this problem.
