Sony DCR TRV510 and DCR TRV820 playback display problem

While videotaping or recording video in a stationary position with both models the playback seems fine however, if either camcorder is moved to track an object or by quickly zooming in or out, the playback video displays a mosaic pattern for a period of time until the camcorders become stationary.

The mosaic pattern is an indication of an old video head( or dirty head). The playback of a recording in a stationary position will not show the mosaic pattern because there is no movement in the picture.
Use a head cleaner cassette to resolve the problem.
If the problem is not resolved , take the camera to a repair centre for replacement of the video head.

Comon sony issue. Proble is low torque tension on the head and on clean of the video head. Sony's don't have alot of tension on their take up reel though. I can increase this for about $100 on most models. www.megaone.com/larry

Mini or micro? A lot of times, mini usb cables will work across electronics (ie. multi-card readers, ipods, micro recorders, 35mm digital cameras... you get the picture). Radio shack and walmart carry mini cables.

This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. You can try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be serviced by a qualified service technician.

Sony DCR-TRV510 Playback Blank or Choppy

I recently had similar problem. Sony Phone tech support was very helpful. The answers were strange. You need to make sure the cameral is turned off, unpluged and take the battery out for at least 5 minutes. (something to do with reseting firmware). That sort of worked when coupled with there last comment which was to RECORD about 15 seconds and play it back. Mine was instantly healed!

Video playback displays mosaic patterns when the camcorder is moving or quickly zooming in or out during video recording. Stationary videotaping does not display the mosaic patterns during playback.

Digital camcorders use compression algorithms that allow them to "cheat" or squeeze the very complex video signal on to a small tape in a short amount of time. When you zoom or pan quickly, each frame is completely different from the one before and the little internal computer can't keep up with the images. It does what it can in the amount of time it has and what you see is the shorthand version. The only solution is don't move the camera fast or buy a new camcorder which will have a faster internal computer.

I think you face this digitizing problem in old recorded cassettes.
If yes, your camera needs little adjustments of tape guides. There will be one guide lose. In technical, we call it Tape path adjustment.
