Out of memory?

After I installed this printer and went to print my speedsheets from Microsoft Works a box pops up and says out of memory this never happened on my old printer which was a HP all in one. I have 768 ram and 41.6 GB free space on the harddrive. My OS is Windows XP, hope I put this on the right forum.

You may have your Virtual Memory set wrong.... Check your virtual memory's paging file. Keep in mind when re-setting this, is that your Virtual Memory-Paging file should be NO larger then 1.5 times the amount of Memory you have installed. You have 512mb of memory, so your Virtual Memory should be 768mb You have 1gig of memory, so your virtual memory should be about 1500 (mine is 1535 exact). To check your virtual memory paging file size. Go to My Computer , right click on it with your mouse, chose Properties. Go to the Advanced (tab). On the Advanced (tab) click the Performance Settings button. Under the Performance / Settings Button, Chose the Advanced (tab) . On this Advanced (tab) you should see your Virtual Memory Paging file size. If it is not set at 1.5 times the amount of your Memory. Then I suggest you change it. So click the Change Button. And put the dot on "System Managed Size" . Click the SET button, then click the OK button, then the APPLY button if you can , then the OK button. Restart your computer. Go back there to see if the size was reset. Make sure it reset to an amount no larger then 1.5 x (times) the amount of Memory you have installed. Good Luck

The problem isn't your printer. The problem is with your Microsoft Works software. I know of six solutions that may work.

1) Download the latest service pack for .NET Framework 1.1. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=A8F5654F-088E-40B2-BBDB-A83353618B38&displaylang=en

2) Go to this website and download the update. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=65f5b806-e6a1-4f92-a656-e56eeda67e3d&displaylang=en

3) Uninstall printer completely (again). Unplug the printer from the computer. Reboot computer. Download the lastest driver from HP website. When installing the driver software, choose (type)a different directory,( ie. C:\MYHP\HP4180\ ). Plug Printer back to computer.

4) Go to this website. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841220

5) Click START, click RUN, type SPOOL. Double click printer folder, clear (delete) any files in this folder.

6) Download the latest version of Microsoft Works 9.0.

Since upgrading to Windows 7, I can't print from Excel (Office 2003). When I try, a "Print to File" window pops up even though that check box is unchecked in the print window. I can print from Word and...

try to make the installed printers as a default printer and then try to print.

in case that does not work when you try to print from excel, click on the drop down for printer name and select the correct printer.

This should help you

Can't print from computer

Reinstall the printer drivers. (completely remove the old ones first)
Try new drivers from HPs website if need be.

Check the print queue in control panel>printers to make sure nothing is lying in the print queue and blocking your printing.

Make sure that you are printing to the correct printer in the "print" dialogue box that pops up when you go file>print. Sometimes this can revert to "microsoft document printing" or somesuchand just save a file on your hard drive instead of printing (in techie speak, printing does not necessarily mean print out on a bit of paper). Or may the "Print" dialogue box wrongly is pointed at another/old printer that still has drivers installed on your pc when it pops up, check before clicking the "ok" button..

If not, try a new cable, if not, call HP.

While trying to print from a microsoft works spreadsheet...it always says "out of memory" and prints a distorted page.

Hi

here are some ways to override the problem

When you try to print
it says
Microsoft Works Out of Memory

This problem may occur if there is a problem with the printer driver that is installed on your computer.

  • Method 1: Install a different printer driver
Contact the manufacturer of your printer to inquire about how to obtain and install the most recent version of the printer driver for your printer.
  • Method 2: Configure the printer as the default printer
Configure the printer driver that you have installed as the default printer. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, and then click Printer and Faxes.
    2. Right-click the printer that you want to set as the default printer, and then click Set as Default Printer.
    3. Click File, and then click Close.
    4. Start Works, and then print the spreadsheet or the database file.
  • Method 3: Install an emulation printer driver
If the problem persists after you install the most recent version of the printer driver for your printer, install an emulation printer driver. An emulation printer driver is a driver that imitates the functionality of a different printer driver. For example, you may be able to resolve this issue if you install the driver for the Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 550C printer or for the Hewlett-Packard LaserJet II printer. To do this, follow these steps if the printer is connected directly to the computer:

    1. Click Start, and then click Printers and Faxes.
    2. Double-click Add Printer.
    3. Click Next, and then click Local printer attached to this computer.
    4. In the Use the following port box, select the port that you want to use.

If the printer is connected directly to the computer, the port is typically LPT1 (Recommended Printer Port).
    5. Under Manufacturer, click the manufacturer of the printer driver that you want to use as the emulation driver. For example, if you are installing Hewlett Packard 550c, click HP DeskJet 550c.
    6. Under Printers, click the model of the printer that you want to use as the emulation driver, and then click Next. Select HP. In Drivers, select HP DeskJet 550c.
    7. In the Printer name box, type a name for the printer, click Yes to set the printer as the default printer, and then click Next.
    8. Click the appropriate option for sharing the printer, and then click Next.
    9. Click No, and then click Next.
    10. Click Finish.

Note If you are using a USB printer, go to step 12.
    11. Start Works, and then try to print the spreadsheet or the database file.
    12. Open Control Panel.
    13. Open Printers and Faxes.
    14. Right-click HP 550c, and then click Properties.
    15. Click Ports.
    16. Click USB001 Virtual Printer port for USB.
    17. Click Apply, and then click OK.
    18. Start Works, and then try to print the spreadsheet or the database file.
Hope this will solve your problem

"out of memory" message then printing to screen and printer

You would need to increase your virtual memory and restart your computer. Windows XP:

Right click my computer, go to properties
Select the advanced tab
Click advanced tab
Click change under virtual memory.
Set virtual memory 1500 to 4000
click set and apply, ok
If the memory is set higher, select a higher number.
This should resolve your issue.
