Craftsman Garage Opener Clicks only and LED blinking 5 times

My 1/2 HP Model 139.53641SRT opener clicks to all my remotes open button (I have no wall mount) but the motor does not move. The LED next to the green "Learn" button blinks 5 times and pauses for 2 seconds continuously after I hit the open/close button on my 3 button remote model 139.53779 (LED does not blink right after I re-plug in AC power). indicates a 5 blinks is a diagnostic for ""RPM sensor or motor overload".
I verified obstruction sensor works and aligned. I also opened the opener housing and verified the motor gear to be fine. Is there anyway to checkout the motor and the RPM sensor?

(Right before the opener stops working, I open the garage door and accidentally hit a button on the 3 button remote that I normally don't use to close it about 5 minutes later and the opener started to act that way. I tried holding the same button for 2 seconds just in case that is the "locked" button for vacation and the opener still behaves the same. I wanted to make sure that I did not accidentally lock up the opener by hitting a wrong button on my remote and end up replacing the opener if someone out there can tell me how to unlock it. I have no owner manual because the opener and remotes came with the house.)

Thanks for your help.

I just finished replacing my drive gear on a liftmaster. Now when I start the opener it goes for about 3 inches stops reverses back 3 inches and turns off. Any solutions?

Same exact problem any ideas? Tried to find schematic for main unit to see if that gave any further clues. Really appreciate help on this one. Thanks!

Good advice. The trolley stopped a few inches from the stop when the opener stopped responding.

I bought an exact replacement 1/2 HP craftsman before my holiday time off from work expired so I can get a working garage opener before going back to work. The replacement manual says the diagnostic lights indicated a logic board issue. I kept the old unit. If I have time to work on it, which I never do, I can work on the old unit and make it a spare. Thanks for your response.

I had this problem and it turned out to be one of the solder joints on the logic board had gone bad. Symptoms: heard the relay click when the button was pressed then followed by 5 flashes of the green LED. Light bulbs did not light at all. Verified motor wasn't spinning so the RPM sensor probably was working. Tested motor in both directions and it worked. Pulled logic board out and saw the bad solder joint behind one of the relays (solder joint wasn't full could see the hole in the circuit board and the lead from the relay coming through). Cleaned off the joint and relay lead a little with a razor blade then resoldered the joint. At that point the garage door began working again.

I really can't believe it, but this solution worked. Great advice guys!

As far as my particular case goes; same issue: light blinked 5 times, checked everything else and this was my last hope. Looked at the logic board and only noticed one very minor joint that looked bad. Soldered that joint and it's back to working.

Just as a note for someone who hasn't done this before:
Search the web for "relay solder joints" and you'll find a bunch of images that show what a bad joint looks like (it's not as obvious as it may seem, I had to get a magnifying glass out to see mine). For specifics, my bad joint was located on the center right-hand-side of the board behind one of the relay switches (the black boxes attached to the board on the other side of the joints).

First off, hitting extra button on remote would not do anything. Is door up or down/ where is trolley that attaches to chain, by door or motor. Is is jamned against a bolt. Try a paper clip and jump from white to read terminal. Does it work. Does light bulb blink 10 times. I ignore the diagnostic lights and go by symptons. Give more info.

I have a 1/2 hp craftsman opener. Remotes work fine. Wired wall unit has a blinking light on the open button and will not work Lock pad and light pad work but not the operate pad.????

Try pressing and holding the lock button for 3 seconds to stop the light from blinking. Your wall control may be bad. Usually when that light is blinking it is the remotes that will not work.

I have a 1995 Sear garage door opener that stopped working

The trolley (the part that moves back and forth and is connected to your door) of your opener is most likely jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. You can remove the bolt or loosen the chain until your unit will run. Once the door is closed find the 'up limit' on the side of the motor unit and turn it about 3 turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Now replace the bolt or tighten the chain. Whichever you first did.

Craftsman Garage Opener Clicks only and LED blinking 5 times

Just fixed this problem tonight. Had the 5 blink/flash thing. Opened it up and saw that the motor wasn't spinning so it wasn't a bad rpm sensor. Jumped the red to black and then the blue to black to verify motor worked. At that point assumed it was the logic board not telling the motor to start, but I could hear the click of the relay. Pulled the logic board out and noticed a solder joint that had failed directly behind one of the relays. Resoldered that joint and the garage door opener worked again like a dream. Hope that helps someone else.

Craftsman garage door opener - Clicking/blinking - no open/close

First, check the safety eyes. There should be a light on each eye that is on. If not, realign the eyes. If that does not work, check the force settings. They are the blue adjustment screws. They should be set on 4-5. Do not go above 6 or there is a problem with either the door or opener, or both. If this does not work check all of the wiring on the back of the opener. 1 should be a red wire, 2 should be three white wires and 3 should be two black wires. Check the wiring to the wall button. the back of the button indicates red and white screws. To take off the wall button you will have to remove the big white button if you have the "deluxe wall control" If this does not fix it, respond with more info on door position and what happens with remotes and wall button.

Garage door opened, won't close

If you can press and hold the wall button and the door will go down, you have a photo eye issue. Check the photo eyes at the bottom of the door.

Red supmart button

The safety interlock sensor is blocked or not working - those are the sensors at the bottom of the door that check for blockages.
