CDM 7859RB Detachable faceplate won't light up. I took the unit out and applied 12V to power and accessory inputs. Voltage appeared on inputs to faceplate but no signs of life.

it's more likey the faceplate, and where it makes contacts with the unit. if you try applying pressure and moving the detachable faceplate on while attached and it turns on, there could be a cold solder/loose connection on the board.

Installed unit, there is obvious power, but the display does not light. Will accept and eject cd, but will not play.

At times a radio can have voltage at the yellow (12v memory wire) and no voltage at the red (12v ignition wire) which turns the radio on and off. If this is the case you may have a blown fuse or if it is a data based system the factory radio turns on with data and not voltage. If you have a data system in your vehicle there will be no 12 ignition wire present. You will then have to use a data/can-bus interface (recommended) or run a wire to and ignition source (this method does not retain any factory data features or safety chimes)

Got power to cd but no display

One idea that comes to mind is,if I remmeber correctly, that model has a removeable faceplate, try this, remove the faceplate, take some denatured alcohol on a Q-tip,clean the electric contacts on the back of the faceplate and also on the front of the deck where they mate together repeatedly for about 4 to 6 times letting them dry between each time that you swab them clean, then replace the faceplate onto the deck being sure that you are seatting the faceplate completely and properly.
This has worked for me sometimes and sometimes not, its worth a try.
Good Luck !

My Alpine CDE 7872 faceplate goes blank intermittently, the unit still functions, just can't see what station you are on, what track, volume, etc...

is the faceplate detachable? if so remove it and clean the metal contacts on both the din unit itself and the faceplate with rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab or Q tip.

if it is not a detachable face, then i would say an internal solder joint is starting to come loose, that is an older alpine model number after all.

My display stays on for about 3 seconds then it turns off until

Hi there,
If this model has a detachable faceplate,
Remove the faceplate and clean down the contacts with metho and a cotton bud.
Over time usually corrosion and dirt etc builds up on these terminals making them loose cotact when you touch the faceplate.
This is the most commonly known problem alpine units.
Other common problems is the power supply failing /amplifier.
Hope this helps you out

Kenwood KDC-X717 - Facplate opens when powered on, stays open. No display.

I've had this problem before. The ribbon cable needs to be replaced. They wear out every few years. Take it in for service. Or do you want to sell it? I need the face plate for mine.

Installing CDM-7836 into a Boat

Yes I can help, the blue/white wire isn't meant for that purpose. That wire is meant for an amplifier turn-on. the wire you want to use is the red that is the accessory lead. What I would recommend is finding a constant 12V to hook to the Yellow and hook the switch 12V to the red. This way your radio will retain memory. Or you can connect both the red and yellow to that switch and never turn the switch off. Simply use the on/off button on the radio. Good Luck I hope I could help.
