Question about Canon PowerShot A530 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Computer not finding camera

I seem to be having a problem with my digital camera not communicating with the computer. I've checked the USB cords, and plugged other devices in to ensure it is not the cable. I have uninstalled & reinstalled the program twice. Any suggestions? COuld this be an internal problem within the camera?

Most cameras need to be turned on. Also, some cameras have a little switch or button to push in order to transfer images to 'puter. Actually, you probably don't even need to install whatever program you did. Unless perhaps you're running windows 98 & computer needs the drivers. So, next time you try to transfer images, click on "my computer" and you should see your camera. If not, that's weird. In which case, simply buy or borrow a card reader & insert your card and hook it up to the computer. It should work for sure.

I'm afraid that USB port has been damaged and is drawing excessive current causing the error message. You are at least fortunate in that your computers' ports are protected since the camera could have otherwise caused damage. Using a basic multimeter one could probably measure across the pins 1 & 4 to determine if the camera's input is shorted; it should in no case measure less than 5-6 Ohms regardless of lead polarity. The current capability of a USB port varies by version but is between 500 & 900 Milliamperes.

hi kbailey. Turn on the camera and go to the menu. find the reset function. Reset the camera. This means you are returning it to all of the settings it was at when it was brand new out of the box. Joe

Hey Sophia,

Have you checked the battery, as the problem seems to be with battery

First of all checked if the battery is inserted properly

Take it off and re-insert it... make sure the +ve and -ve are set properly

If it still does not work...you got to replace the battery

Thanks

How do I charge my camera with a usb cord. It

You have to use the battery charger included with the camera, or a replacement unit. The camera does not have charging circuitry built-in. Connecting the camera to a computer runs down the battery faster, as the camera must then communicate with the computer.

My camera won't be recognized when it's hooked up...

Make sure the camera is on and pc is selected on the camera screen when connected to the computer. You will need to have PC highlighted and select ok on the camera as this starts the camera and computer to communicate. Once communication established the LCD screen of the camera goes dark and the computer should generate a removable disk drive. Check the System Tray (lower right corner beside the PC time) for Safely Remove Hardware. When you click on it, it should read "Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device Drive ?:" If you dont see that, then check the Device Manager to see if the camera is recognized as USB Mass Storage Device. The camera uses the driver usbstor.

Fujifilm z10 Will Not Connect to Computer

Your computer might need the driver for that particular camera reinstalled. You should be able to go to Fuji's website and download an updated driver for your camera make and model. Also, just to be sure, most cameras have to be turned to the ON position when you download data. My Kodak will not communicate with my P.C. unless I have it ON when I attach the U.S.B. cord - a couple of times I have sat there waiting and nothing, until I realize I did not have it ON. Also you may want to make sure your U.S.B cord is O.K. - replacements are inexpensive. Good Luck!!!

I had the same problem. My problem was that there were more than 1,000 images stored on the memory card. Once I deleted some of the images from the camera memory card, I was able to download pictures again.
