These answers are amazing. And wrong. It is an open reel deck.
Older units do not work when let sit for a long time because the belts decay, liquify and fall off. The Pinch Roller linkage gets solid due to dried up grease. These older machine need immediate attention and I tell people to not even plug them in as you risk burning out a $150 capstan motor- I have seen it happen. The deck will need maintenance by an experienced Technician of these kinds of devices. So far as I know there is Only Russ in New Jersey (New Jersey Factory Service) and myself in Chicago (Skywave Tape Deck Repair). Both of us were top people who worked for Teac in the 80's as Technicians or managers. We are qualified and experience with these decks. There are other good Technicians out there but I am not aware of any in Florida. It is a Technician wasteland I am told. I get a lot of units from that state. The good news is that you have new heads on the unit that have no wear- they are worth money just by themselves. Get the unit fixed. That would be my opinion. I have worked on these for 40 years so far.
The simplicity has a a two point mounting system for the deck. It attaches to the front axle which has two runners that go to the front axle's rear support bracket.
Closely check the runners near where the pins that hold the mower deck. They are known for cracking and breakage. Secondly, closely check the decks metal center support bracket, it bolts to the center of the deck and supports the idler pulleys as well as the deck alignment and mounting. Those, too, are known to crack near the front just behind the front pulley.
Tou have a broken or loose deck belt. Not an easy DIY but medium and doable. Check the belt in the deck too (the one that makes both blades spin at the same time. This belt likely needs to be changed too.
find someone selling a mower like it on eBay or craigslist, buy the whole mower and toss the tractor part. this will be cheaper than buying a new deck. and if you google around you will find lawn mower junkyards out there. contact one of those, they can hook you up. shipping will be high.
bear in mind your mower was really built by AYP, american yard products. find their website and email the tech support department and maybe they could give you a list of decks they made under other names which will fit your mower. my neighbor's sears was a clone of my husqvarna.
No, Sorry but if you are emotionally attached to that unit, then you could order one from the manufacturer. Whereas its cost plus shipping will be near or exceed the cost of a new head unit.
