Either the CRT had a catastrophic failure, which is very rare unless it was dropped, the high voltage anode attached to the CRT fell off (easily fixed by a professional, and again really rare) or a component in the power supply failed. The latter can be repaired inexpensively by a TV shop, but a broken CRT is the end of your TV.

Carefully rock the TV back and forth with it unplugged, and/or turn it upside down and rock it just in case a foreign object fell through the top vent and caused a short.

Do not attempt to open a TV and work on it unless you know exactly what you are doing. There are high voltage capacitors that can seriously hurt if you touch the wrong thing.

    else try tis>>

I would try, first, the hard reset and whacking test:

RESET: Unplug the power cord for 4 hours.

WHACKING:  Smack the set all over with your hand or fist to see if that will reactivate a loose connection or cold solder joint and restore the color.

THEN:  Make sure you have a strong signal or that it is not a cable signal problem. If you have another set in the house, try that one on the same outlet just to make sure.

If no sucess, it will require a tech to go inside and snoop around until the problem is found.  Most likely in the color control/processor IC.  Replacing it will be expensive.

Wharfedale dvdr24hd169f stays in standby no displays wont accept commands

The problem is in the power supply board, often caused by a defective capacitor that becomes open, cap value is usually around 1000uf and sometimes shows a bulge at top leaking contents, if you are handy with a soldering iron replace part with identical value and voltage rating and observe the polarity.

This is a mechanical problem and will only get worse, caused by gear ware timing issues, or jamming.

Hi,

please go to the below website and select the model of your remote.

An page opens in that you have REMOTE CONTROL CODE FINDER,click it
Choose the device type and device make it gives the code for your remote.

Then follow the procedure given below,

1 Turn on the DVD ( The DVD should play ).

2 Select DVD on the remote (= Press the device key for which you are programming the remote ) :
keep the key pressed for 5 seconds until it blinks twice and then remains lit.

3 Enter the given four-figure code for your brand , using the digit keys .

– The DVD key will now blink twice and then remains lit.
• If the DVD key blinks once , the code has not been entered properly or
The wrong code has been entered. Start again from step 2.

4 Press and hold the “ standby/power on” key and immediately release it when the TV
switches off (standby).
– This may take up to 30 seconds.

5 Turn on the DVD and check if you can
operate all needed functions on your DVD
– Make sure the receiving device is able to respond and accept the desired command .

6 Press the DVD key twice to exit setup mode and save your settings.
– When no key is pressed for 2 minutes or more the remote control
will exit setup mode automatically.

• If the device does not respond at all or not to all of the key commands or if you cannot find
the code for your brand, enter ‘0, 0, 0, 0’ in step 3 and continue with step 4.
The remote control will now search the full database for a code that works with your DVD
Full database search may take up to 15 minutes.

Cannot program dvd player. unit does not fully answer commands from remote.

Hi,

To program the DVD player's remote control to operate your TV, follow these steps:
  1. Turn on the TV, and then aim the DVD player’s remote control at the TV.
  2. Press and hold the [TV Power] button on the DVD player's remote control.
  3. While holding the [TV Power] button, use the number buttons on the remote to enter the two digit code assigned to your brand of TV.
Note 1: If your DVD player's remote control can be programmed to operate a TV, the TV brand codes will be listed in your owner's manual. If you don't have your owner's manual available, click here to go to the download center and download a copy.
Note 2: Many TV brands have more than one code. If the first code does not work, try the next available code.
  1. If the TV turns off, the code worked correctly and your remote control is now programmed. If the TV stays on, repeat steps 1 through 3 with a different code listed for your brand of TV.
Note: If none of the codes listed allows your DVD player's remote to control your TV, then the remote is not compatible with your specific model.

Let us know if you want something more else please accept the suggestion.

Remote control via RI terminal on Onkyo Receiver

Not sure I can solve, but maybe help. I am having a similiar problem. However, make sure you Analog Audio (RCA type) cable are connected even if using Digital connection between the two. They use those cable to send the Commands (Mentioned in the documentation).
If you did get yours to work, please give me a hint... I upgraded mine from a 603 to a 701 and haven't been able to get it to work since.
