EVERYTIME I TURN ON PEINTER ERROR 5200 COMES ON

  • Thomas F. Schneider May 11, 2010

Two replys taken for another site:

In many earlier-model Canon bubble-jets, Error 5200 indicated an error with the printhead. Not sure if the error codes are the same on your printer.

I had the same problem. I disconnected the power and reconnected it and everything worked fine.

Normal 0 This doesn’t help fix all printers because each situation is different and in most cases we don’t have enough information to determine the fix. So hope this will provide some help.

Could have a corrupt driver.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and when the CD software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

The problem seems to be the printhead is overheating (b/c ink is low, I guess ink helps cool the head). If you're like me, you probably tried to squeeze the last print out, after the low-ink warning had been on for some time. Well, now we've screwed up the unit by running it dry on ink.

Be sure you have full ink. Take out your ink (cover it with tape to prevent drying). Take the printhead out. Clean it under HOT HOT HOT water until ink STOPS flowing out. Dry it next to a fan (overnight if you live in a humid climate). Reinstall the print head. Reinstall ink cartridges (make sure they have ink in them). While holding the power button, plug the unit back in. Simultaneously press the reset button twice to return the unit to factory settings. Give it a second. Then, unplug it. Then, plug it back in. Wa-La. It should work fine.

Never let the ink run dry. That's the lesson I learned!

My printer canon mx700 has error 5200, what I have to do to fix it. Thanks.

This is a printhead overheat error but both the printhead and main logic board should be changed together and it would cost over 3/4 of the price of a new machine. So i would buy another machine rather than go for a repair.

What does an error 5200 mean?

(1) With the printer turned on, unplug it
(2)Open the top and bring the ink cartridge holder to the middle
(3)Raise the gray bar and remove the print head assembly with the cartridges in it
(4) Lower the gray bar with the head missing and close the top with the head out
(5) Restore the power, wait til the printer wakes up
(6) It will tell you to put in the cartridges
(7) Restore the print head, close the top and the printer should resume working.....
it is a printer head error and some solved it that way ..after you do that it will resume the function and work ..

Printer error code 5100 I had a business card paper jam in my Canon MX700. I removed the back panel & was able to clear the obstruction, but I keep getting the Error code: 5100. I've tried turning the...

Hi You can Try

Same old Error Code 5100
Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.

Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .

Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.
