Question about Aqua Pentax Optio S12 Digital Camera

1 Answer

ACDsee software Hi, Your advice on upgrading Windows doesn't actually help me - i need help installing the camera software! I've just purchased a Pentax Optio S12 as a second camera (my first camera is a Pentax Optio S40). I'm trying to install the ACDsee software that came with the camera. I am familiar with this software as the 1st camera uses it (I already have a version on my computer) When I try to install it, I get an error message saying "Epson Scan cannot be started - do you want to open the troubleshooting assistant" If I say yes, the troubleshooting assistant opens (but there doesn't seem to be anything helpful there) along with the Copy Utility window. This Copy Utility only seems to allow you to print from my Epson printer/scanner. I've tried it and it works fine - but that's all it does, I can't get past this to actually INSTALL the camera software. With the old camera, all I had to do was install the software, and then plug the camera in via the camera/USB AV cable- and the photos would upload automatically. The new camera isn't doing anything when I plug it in. (PS I even though the old ACDsee software on my computer might be somehow causing problems - so I tried renaming the Epson folder containing the software to something else so the computer couldn't see it - didn't help either.) I am actually very computer literate and this is driving me crazy. it shouldn't be this difficult! Can you please help me get past this annoying Copy Utility program (which doesn't seem to do anything other than print from my scanner), I just need to install the ACDsee software! thankyou Diane

Hi; my advice wasn't to upgrade windows. My advice was to download the latest ACDsee software. My question about which operating system you had was to see if you were using Vista or not which could have been a culprit but since you are not, that rules that out. However, some windows updates may interfere with some software. That's why I suggested going to ACDsee's website and see if there is a known issue with up to date windows XP or not by downloading either a patch or the latest version of ACDsee.

Also, when you plug in your new camera, you said it isn't doing anything....does it appear in my computer as a removable drive where you could manually go in and look at your pictures?

If you only tried importing to the program straight from the camera, you could try to import the pictures, using a card reader or by copying the files to the computer before importing into the program.

In addition to the basic JPG, BMP, GIF, etc. formats ACDSee 17 should support the following RAW formats:
  • CRW Canon
  • CR2 Canon
  • cRAV Sony
  • DCR Kodak

Vivitar Vivicam driver crashes my pc

Oh the freephone number you get for customer service..... a dead line...

I eventually found a number for customer service online and...I called them.

It turns out that Vivitar products do not support Windows Vista(at least that's what I was told by them.. . The Guy actually giggled as he said that they don't work with Vista!!!

They have no plans to upgrade this product and that I "should just buy a new camera"

I asked for the head office address and the person on the other end said there was no need to be like that... I had taken as much as I could so I said my goodbyes and hung up..

I took the camera back to the shop I purchased it and they gave me a full refund....

So to sum up... If you're going to buy a Vivitar camera, my advice is DON'T.. I eventually went for a Kodak EasyShare C613 and even with it's lower megapixel (6.2 instead of the Vivitar's 8) the picture quality is far better. The tone and lighting is so much richer. And when you regitser at you get a voucher for 20 free digital prints and free upgrades and software...

Sorry for being so negative about Vivitar but I can not stand bad customer service!

Hope this help ...

Best wishes

Connecting the Pentax S50 to computer

hi there

there doesnt seem any problem i what youve explained. its just that your saying that it doesnt show any images as fast like before.

i suggest that you use another software which is easier to use and actually is particular to pictures and videos. whenever you connect your cam to the computer, this software will identify the pics inside your cam.

you can download Picasa2 @ which is under the Imaging Tab.

hope this helps you.

Optio W10 usb cable does nothing

The first rule with any new didital camers is as far as I am concerned is -Leave The Disk in The Box Windos is quite capable of reading removeable meadi with out extra layers of programs. So Remove the software [Start/Comtrol Panel/Add Remove software, etc., Reboot the computer. Plug in the camera Make sure it is set to the upload function[see manual] Windows Camera/scanner wizard will come up select what you want to do[coy to folder] click OK. Do all this first If still in trouble check the cable with another, and if you can remove media card and try through yours PC or another via a card reader. You have to eliminate which is dud Camera[switchng] cable. When you have make the decision and concluded it is the camera/cable, pack it all up and take it back from the place it came from.

Camera will detect camera then come up with error message

What Operating system is your Lappie? If it is XP or 2000 no driver required. Best advice is to remove the camera soft ware from the computer. Plug the camera in and Windows will detect it as a new drive in My Computer. The best advice for software supplied with cameras is - Leave it in the Box and let WINDOWS DO THE WORK

Software Installation

Pentax camera creates an own folder at each inserted SD card. So, try to find your image and video files in the folder named 100PENTX. For example, my camera saves the shot images into folder: SD card:\DCIM\100PENTX.
