The problem is that the printer is set to print on default paper.
When you use photo or other specialty paper, especially when the thickness is greater than inexpensive copy paper, the print heads need to match the paper.
Go to the control panel on the printer, and enter the type of paper you're using. Your problem of streaking will disappear.

Why do I get bleed through of print on pages I print out at bottom of page or shadow print on some?

Paper is too thin (use higher "pound" paper).
-or-
Toner is not of good quality (use HP Brand if possible)
-or-
Printer is set to dark or heavy in your page setup (change to normal or even light)

You can also make sure you are using an HP print driver instead of a generic print driver. Go to HP.com and search print driver for you model, download and install (if you don't already have an HP printer driver loaded on your PC).

This could be a problem with the paper your using. Try another brand of paper that is recommended only for the inkjet printer. Paper that is meant for Laser does not always work will with inkjet printers as it is made to handle toner and not ink.

Some paper I suggest is the HP Brochure paper C7020AC 48lbs which is recommended for your printer by Hewlett Packard. If not available try and see if you can get something similar that is only for inkjet printers. 8.5 x 11 in, 48 lb, 100 sheets C7020AC

Try these steps first.
Diagnosing Print-Quality Problems
The Troubleshooting Print-Quality Page provides a good overview of the most
common print quality problems. To print the Troubleshooting Print-Quality Page,
follow these steps:
1. From the Control Panel, scroll to Troubleshooting, then press OK.
2. Scroll to Print Quality Problems, then press OK.
3. Scroll to Troubleshooting Print Quality Page, then press OK.
The Troubleshooting Print Quality Page includes instructions for printing the
Eliminate Light Stripes test print. These instructions are also provided on the next
page of this manual. The Eliminate Light Stripes test print indicates individual weak
or missing jets or an obstruction in the imaging path that affects a vertical band down
the entire page. Also, you may see color variation from jet to jet on the Eliminate
Light Stripes test print. Some variation is normal, occasionally occurs, and usually
self-corrects within a few printed pages. If a print-quality problem is not resolved
with the information provided in the Diagnosing Print-Quality

Paper rolls up

You have a humidity issue with your paper. Buy or open a fresh **** (sealed) and try printing again. If your paper is stored in a cool place move it to a warmer area. Paper tends to pick up moister over time, especially when cold and will curl when printing. The paper is actually steaming when it hits the fusing (heating) section in the back of the printer. The curl is because one side of the page is drying faster than the other.

If you have a case of paper and open a fresh **** with similar results, buy a new **** and try again. When selecting your paper buy good reliable paper. I recommend "HP Office" branded or better. I say stay with HP Brand paper as it's manufactured to a tight quality standard than most and is a "known good" paper. STAY AWAY FROM STORE BRANDS as they go out on low-cost bids and the quality varies widely on whoever got the contract this time.

As a more positive note, If you use a good paper in your printer, your drum cartridge (expensive) and toner cartridge (not cheap) will actually last much longer. You'll save more (much more) in the long run.

Hope that helps you.

Self cleaning and print test sheet

To print a test page, from ready press the go button. There isn't a cleaning page or drum cleaning cycle on Brother printers.

Brothers are notorious for having bad toner and drum issues. They are very finicky about paper quality. What happens is when a lower quality paper is used the higher paper dust and talc gets caught up in the charging brushes of the drum. Brother has no waste sections in their cartridges or drums so the built up junk stays right in the charging brushes and causes the drums to fail. On the toner cartridge side it re-uses it's waste toner adding it back (with the paper dust and talc) into the fresh toner supply area. Eventually the cartridge contaminates itself to the point of causing imaging problems.

Best recommendation after over 13 years fixing printers to you is to use GOOD paper at all times with Brother printers. Brands tend to fluctuate wildly in quality but the most stable brand to look for is a HP (Hewlett Packard) brand paper. They tend to keep the tightest control over paper with their name on it than others I've seen. HP "Office" paper is relatively inexpensive and will save you much more in the long run than buying cheap paper. STAY AWAY FROM STORE BRAND PAPERS OR XEROX 4200.

Hope that helps you.

Print quality problem

Hi there sound to me like the toner cartridge is either faulty or leaking. Is it or has it been refilled if so remove cartridge vacuum out the insides of loose toner install brand new toner cartridge then test again. It cannot be the fuser unit as it will have quality problems all the time so try above and I hope it works for you.

Thanks J
