Get an external hard disk enclosure, load the system from the external and then format again. Meanwhile, the software may also pose the problem. Check if it is genuine.

Hi, it will definitely format if:
1 - you can create a startup disk (either from a friend or buy one) and use it to format from MS-DOS mode.
2 - you can get a buy a win98se installation cd. It contains the command you will need to format.
But remember this, don't format from window - it's not done that way.
Let me know if you get it and you can also contact me or rate my solution on fixya. Thanks.

Linksys USB300M cannot install driver for win 98 there is no "installer" on the CD and win98 does not see it for an automatic startup

This adapter is only supported on Windows 98 SE (Second Edition), not older versions of Windows 98. The drivers are already built into Windows 98 SE.

I bought jet flash 500 pendrive model TS4GJF500 I HAVE USE WIN 98 MY PEN DRIVE IS NOT DETECTED WHAT CAN I DO PLEASE GIVE ME A SOLN

Hi..

Windows 98 does not support Plug n Play Devices. So you have to download appropriate drivers from Microsoft Website. Though Windows 98SE ( Windows 98 Second Edition ) thought to be support USB Mass Storage Drives fairly, these drivers are not pre-installed with OS. You have to download Service packs to install these drivers.

Since Windows 98 have TWO versions, we have to download corresponding service packs .

You can
Download Service Packs for Windows 98 Here

Download Service Packs for Windows 98 SE (Windows 98 Second Edition) Here

How do i erase windows 95 and replace it with windows 98?

you get a copy of windows 98, pop in the disc, click upgrade (or fresh install if you don't wanna keep anything), and let her install. About 45 minutes after it reboots you should check on it because it has a dialog box for you then.

Windows 98 se, xp not installed to compaq armada E500 pc notebook

First, format the hard drive and make sure it is in FAT or FAT32 for Windows 98 install. Then do your partitioning etc and should work. If it doesn't, it is possibly a hardware fault.

Here is the site for the drivers for the laptop :

Hope this helps in some way :)

DOES THE VERBATIM HARD DRIVE NEED TO BE FORMATED?

Many Verbatim hard drive models with a FireWire interface come “Mac formatted” – pre-formatted for immediate use with Apple Macintosh computers running Mac OS. They are formatted as HFS+, the preferred format when using the drive exclusively with Mac OS computers.
Note: A Mac-formatted drive will not mount on a Windows PC.
If you plan to use a Mac-formatted hard drive only with computers running Mac OS, you can leave it formatted as it comes from the factory. However, if you plan to use your hard drive with computers running Windows, or with both Mac OS and Windows computers, you should reformat your Verbatim hard drive before saving data to it. Generally, for use with both Mac OS and Windows you should format to FAT32, and for use strictly with Windows you should format to NTFS. More information about these two format types is given below.
FAT32 FAT32 is compatible with the following Windows operating systems: Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista. FAT32 can also be read by Apple Macintosh computers running Mac OS.
Limitations: Maximum file size is limited to 4TB. Furthermore, using the formatting tools included with Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista users will not be able to create partition sizes larger than 32GB (though they can access these larger partitions). This limitation does not apply to other supported operating systems. Furthermore, Verbatim provides a FAT32 format utility (see further below for download instructions) that eliminates the 32GB partition limitation.
FAT32 is a good choice if you’ll be using your Verbatim hard drive with older computers running Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, or Windows Me, or if you’ll be using it with both Windows and Mac OS computers.
NTFS NTFS is compatible with the following Windows operating systems: Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista. NTFS usually results in higher performance than FAT32, and will permit users to create partition sizes larger than 32GB, and file sizes larger than 4TB.
Limitations: NTFS is not compatible with Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows Me, or Apple Macintosh computers running Mac OS.
NTFS is a good choice if you will be using your Verbatim hard drive only with one or more computers running Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Windows Vista. This is also a good choice if you plan to store files larger than 4TB, such as digital video files.

Usb 2.0 windows 98

Windows 98 SE supports USB 2.0. The original Windows 98 (gold) or Windows 98 OEM or Windows 98 Upgrade versions which are not SE will not support USB 2.0. Nor is there any way to get USB 2.0 support for these Windows 98 versions unless you upgrade to Windows 98 SE.

Note that the Windows 98 SE upgrade CD will fail upon completion, leaving the SE Upgrade with a corrupt registry, if you try to run the Windows 98 SE Upgrade CD on a Windows 98 system that has a version of IE installed which is higher than IE 4.

How to install os

This is a little difficult but it can B done :) Firstly I dunno if ya need to re-format ya drive? perhaps first ya could try to "Repair" of Win98? If that doesn't work, then, perhaps ya may have to re-format. If the Win98 is on a SEPARATE drive or Partition this also makes a difference.... Basically ... repair/re-install win98, then do a repair of ya Boot menu for XP, as Win98 sets up an incorrect Boot up for XP, and thus must be "Fixed" so XP will boot & show a Dual boot menu.. here are some links to help you step by step... http://pcworld.about.com/magazine/2109p156id111652.htm http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/ew/2004/08/30/stories/2004083000250400.htm
