Question about iRiver E100 Digital Media Player
I just got a new iRiver E100 for Xmas – yay!
But I have had a problem installing the iRiver Plus 3 software.
I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop running Windows XP. I also have McAfee security.
When installing the Plus3 software from the mini CD provided, I get a message from McAfee saying that a Trojan has been detected and that it has been eliminated.
After the program has been installed Windows gives me a message saying that there has been a problem installing software and the program may not run correctly.
When I do then run the Plus 3 program, I can loads up the music library, but I cannot download anything onto the iRiver player. (There is no ‘download’ function arrow/button displayed.
When I try to do a drag and drop / copy and paste from Windows Explorer, I cannot ‘see’ the iRiver – it does not appear as one of my available drives.
What I would like to try is turning off McAfee while I install the Plus 3 software, but I am worried that there really might be a nasty little Trojan lurking in it. Is it possible though that the Plus 3 people have created a Trojan that allows the program to be fully installed in order to get around some lack of licensing issue with Microsoft?
What do you think?
Sometimes AntiVirus software, even from names like Norton and McAfee, falsely detect good software as a dangerous download. If the player is NOT brand new, never-been-used, and fresh out of the box, then I would format the mp3 player first to make sure that there really isn't a virus on it. If it is brand-new, then you can either turn off the McAfee or change the settings (temporarily) which lead to automatically remove threats - make sure to reactivate this setting once the software is installed. Alternatively (perhaps even a better solution) - you can download a clean version of the software from iRiver's website - their support is fairly good - just click the Plus 3 link on their new, simplified website.
