I need a manual for old (1999) "Battle of Britain" by Talonsoft
I need to download a digital copy (pdf or .zip file) of the manual for the old (1999) "Battle of Britain" by Talonsoft game, originally for win 98. It runs very well on win xp pro 32bit, under w98 compatibility mode, w/ 16 bit color depth, but I have forgotten how to play it. I can't see the manual listed on the CD, I do not think that they put it there. Thanks! Ash

I would try installing the game using program comparability troubleshooter
Run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then clickSearch.)
Enter run programs in the search box.
Tap or click Run programs made for previous versions of Windows, and then tap or click Next.
Select the program you want to fix.
- Or -
If you don't see the program in the list, select Not Listed.
Tap or click Next, and then follow the instructions in the troubleshooter.
You can also run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter from your desktop. Press and hold or right-click the program's icon or shortcut on your desktop, and then tap or click Troubleshoot compatibility.
Ok, click here at dll-files.com, scroll down to where you see a big orange download button. Now just under that button you should see a white download button that says "download zip file". Click the white button. NOTICE: Do not download via clicking the orange button because instead of downloading the dll it downloads the dll fixer which is a completely useless program that doesn't do anything but take up space on your hard drive. OK, now, once you have saved the zip to a place on your computer, extract or copy the dll file to the game root directory (this should be where the game root exe is). That's it, your all set. Remember you can use that site to get any missing dll. Have a nice day.
I got talonsoft eastfront II to run on my windows 7 laptop by using two pieces of software. First I use vmware player and created a virtual machine with a winxp install. Second, I ripped the original game CD using alcohol. This creates an image that preserves the special formatting that is necessary because of the SafeDisc copy protection that is used in this talonsoft game. I mount this image using alcohol since my laptop does not have an optical drive. The vmware player sees the mounted image as a normal cd drive with the original game cd in it. I can install and play eastfront II in the win xp virtual machine. I installed the 1.02 patch. No other special settings were necessary. All features appear to work with this setup. The videos play, the unit viewer works (help files with transparency does not work in win 7 normally), background music and sfx are streamed off the virtual cd.
I recently dug this game back out, it is really cool and wanted to play it again. It was still installed on my desktop Windows XP and worked fine but couldn't get it to run on laptop with exact same problem you described. After an hour of searching the net I found this patch which fixed it and now it runs fine. You can find it at the link below. Just select the appropriate one you need.
if it said dat.exe error, then u should reinstall your LOTR again...it is because the system is crash..b4 reinstall, try to locate your save folder, copy it and save to other location...after reinstall, paste it back to the same location that u copy the save data. n then u can continue your mission without start again..
A. There is a known fix to the problem that you have experienced and if
you follow the instructions below, you will be able to resolve it. What
you're going to need to do is find the file called 'Console.cfg'. This
is located in your game's install folder (My Computer -> C:\Program
Files\ActivisionValue\MagicWand\Rapala\Rapala\Cfg) inside the \Cfg
folder. It might be easiest to just do a search from the start menu for
'Console.cfg'. Once you find that file, open it up with notepad or
You will see a series of lines, the 5th line says: "addvar r_windowed
int; r_windowed = 0". You're going to want to change that to: "addvar
r_windowed int; r_windowed = 1".
Towards the bottom of the file (scroll down) you'll see two lines:
"addvar rWaterReflect int; rWaterReflect = 1" and "addvar rWaterRefract
int; rWaterRefract = 1" . You're going to want to change those to:
"addvar rWaterReflect int; rWaterReflect = 0" and "addvar rWaterRefract
int; rWaterRefract = 0".
Make sure you save the file and that it asks you to replace it when you
save. Then you can start the game. It will not take up the whole
screen, but you can fix that by going into the options menu from the
main menu and increasing the resolution.
Sorry friend but this game is not compatible with Vista and there aren't any patches. However you can try your luck here. Go thru the thread
http://www.theblitz.org/downloads/patches.php#cs Also i suggest you to run the game with the Xp Sp2 Compatability option turned on.
