Question about Maytag DWU9962 Dishwasher

Glasses Get Dirtier in our Maytag MDBH950AWB Dishwasher

It seems that no matter what settings or chemicals we have on our dishwasher the glasses invariably come out dirtier than they went in. A sandy/gritty residue is left on the inside of inverted glasses and bowls etc on the top rack. We use those Cascade gelcap things but have tried various types, with and without the rinse. I have completely cleaned the washer a number of times removing just about everything inside it. Cleaned the filter screens and jets etc. If there is an additive out there that we should be using I'd like to know about it as so far our experimentation with various products has not paid off. When we used powder detergent in the past we encountered a large build up of calcium like material on the heater element. I have given up using the thing and have gone back to washing and drying by hand and I'm beginning to think it's less hassle. (My wife almost completely washes everything before she puts them in the machine in any case)

Many thanks for any reasonable explanation and solution.

Sounds like you have either a calcium build up or are using to much detergent. more is not always better. if you have a calcium problem you may need to run a cleaner called dishwasher magic through your dishwasher. it comes in a 12oz bottle and can be bought at sears online the part number is wx10x10200. the other thing you can try is running vinegar in a cup facing right side up on the top rack through the dishwasher to see if it helps clean anything out. if not then the dishwasher magic may be the only way to go.

After a wash cycle the dishes and glasses have a white film on them making them look dirtier than when the wash cycle started. What's the problem and what do we do?

If you have hard water, glasses can look spotted and cloudy even after cleaning. Sometimes changing the dishwasher detergent can help. The easiest solution to clearing up glasses that start to look cloudy is toadd some vinegar to the bottom of the dishwasher before you start a cycle. Simply add 1 cup of white vinegar and it will clear up your glasses very well.
You should see marked improvement after the first time you do this. If they are not crystal clear then simply repeat the process until all of the cloudiness is gone. In fact I recommend to using a little vinegar in each cycle to maintain the clarity of the glass.

Note: you can pre-test this by rubbing some vinegar on an individual glass with a cloth. If you cannot remove the cloudiness by soaking it and rubbing vinegar on it then it is possible that the glass is etched due to harsh or cheap dishwasher detergent and vinegar will not solve the problem.

Glasses come out dirtier than they went in to the dishwasher but other items clean OK

Remove all dishes and throw two cups of vinegar into your machine then run the complete pot scrubber cycle with the hottest water you can.

Always run the hot water into the sink until it is totally hot before you run your dishwasher.

Glasses Smell after Washing

if you are using the heater to dry them .. have you ever washed anything plastic that may have melted onto the heater element? You might try flushing the dishwasher with white vinegar and then run a set of glasses in the energy efficient mode ( no heater to dry them)..just air dried.. See if any of these ideas rid the chemical smell you have observed... Hope this helps///

This is an maytag

If the cloudyness on the glasses can't be washed off by hand and seems permanent, the glasses are eched. Usually caused by hard water or minerals in the water. The only thing that helps is using a good rinse agent.

Dirty glasses

there is a new product out called the dishwasher filtration system. it actually filters the water going into your dishes. the dishes look dirty because your water has a lot of calcium and magnesium in it making them appear cloudy or dirty. the dishwasher filter reduces those minerals and my dishes look perfect now. no more dirty and grimy looking dishes. i also dont waste time washing them by hand before and after the dishwasher. hahaha you can get it at www.dishwasherfilter.com. use code DFMTEN and you will get 10% off. it fits right under your sink and is very affordable. you will be glad you bought this product. thanks
