Hi, Thanks for your input. The TV is connected to an amplifier as is a DVD/video player. There are no other appliances nearby and no appliances(except as below) have been moved recently,

The vertical bar mentioned is "ghost-like" and very, very light in appearance. It has a texture to it .Only one vertical line appears on the screen at a time and it takes about 3 seconds to cross the screen. My wife pointed it out about 4 days ago, otherwise I might not have noticed it.

My family recently played with a playstation 3, connected to the TV. May this have contributed to the problem?

I have run out of things to tell you. Over to you please.

Thank you for your assistance. It turned out that the problem was loose connection related and has been fixed by securing all leads.

    Thanks Again,

The problem has been fixed by securing all leads, as you suggested. Thank you for saving me lots of dough in not having to call a serviceman.

    Keep up the good work,

Ive also seen something similar to this when i had a dvd connected to my tv, and it wasnt properly connected, ie the scart cable was loose and it showed the dvd player logo through onto the tv when watching it normally.

Check all your connections and check they are all properly seated etc.

OK... Left to Right is weird. I'd say one of two things.
Refresh Rate might be to low or to high, but i doubt this to be the cause. I'll put my money on external interferences. Something like another PC screen? TV? anything magnetic and I've even in some cases noticed PC side panels too close to a screen can cause this.

Well in my experience ZMarshall, repairing tv's typically cost about as much as a new one. Basically they will have to replace the entire screen, with parts and labor you could be looking at a grand.
