How do I insert CD in computer? It doesn"t seem to have an open slot.

If there is no "Open" button for the drive then normally they are opened by pushing on the DVD/CD tray itself momentarily. It only needs a short positive push and the drive tray should slide out.

CD DRIVE DOOR BUTTON JAMMED ON AX5900

You should see a small 'pin hole' on the face of the CD drive, usually near the eject button itself, but not always. Straighten a paper clip (med size is best) and insert into the hole. You will feel a little resistance (this is good) continue pushing the paper clip straight in until the door pops open. Almost all CD/DVD drives have this "manual open" pin hole for just such cases. Alternately you can open My Computer, point to the CD/DVD icon, right click and choose the "eject" option, this will open the tray if the physical button has stopped working.

My cd drive doesn't recognize a disc.

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver
You might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd computer then plug them back in restart your this should activate the found new hardware wizard.
If this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem
"you only need to do the following"

Reboot your computerOpen My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
if this fails to fix the problem
It could be a problem with the lens you could use a liquid type lens cleaner place 2-3 drops on top of a cd/dvd then run it

There is not an emergency DVD eject hole that is evident anywhere on the front or side of the Acer x1200 desktop. I have done this on other computers before so know what to look for. When I push the button...

Is your optical drive hidden by a panel? Some computers have this cover that should flip down when the drive opens and close when you close the drive. If this is the case, you need to get behind the cover to find the manual eject hole. For whatever reason, I can't get the Acer manual to load today so I can't quickly check how to remove the entire faceplate from the computer.

http://support.acer.com/ is a good starting place.

Since the drive is recognized by the computer, I suspect the cover may need adjustment (or the cd tray isn't pushing hard enough).

I hope this helps.

Dvd cd room disfunction

Hello Suzanne,

You may be required to go into the registry to fix this issue, so if you are not too comfortable going into the registry, you might want to get help (but I have written the instructions you can follow)

Check the Device Manager.

Start > Control Panel > Double Click the System icon > Click the Hardware Tab at the top of the box that opens > Click the Device Manager Button.

Click the [+] sign beside the category DVD/CD-ROM Drives

After clicking the [+] sign and the DVD/CD-ROMS Devices category opens up, is there a DVD Drive listed? If there is, when you right-click the DVD Drive and choose properties, does it give any error code, like Error code 39 in the grey box that appears when you choose properties?

Normally the DVD drives use the default Windows drivers. Try right clicking the DVD Drive under the DVD/CD-ROM Drives category in Device Manager and choose uninstall. Then reboot the computer and Windows will find the device and re-install drivers automatically.

If you are still getting the error or the Drives do not show up in My Computer ("poste de travail"), it may be an update or some other program that added data to the DVD's driver data in the registry. Try this:

1) Close all open programs

2) Click on Start, Run, and type "regedit" (without the quotations) and press Enter. Back up (File > Export) the registry before you make any changes)

3) Click on the plus signs [+] next to the following folders

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  • SYSTEM
  • CurrentControlSet
  • Control
  • Class
  • Left Click and Highlight: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} **Make sure you choose this exact key**
4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand side panel:

  • UpperFilters
  • LowerFilters
  • UpperFilters.bak
  • LowerFilters.bak
5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed on the right hand side, right-click on them and choose Delete

6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor

7) Reboot your computer

8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

This should fix the problem, let me know if it worked for you,

RyMS
