The letter u key gives me the number 4, the i key gives me the number 5 the o gives me number 6, The last 3 to 4 letter keys gives me numbers

right first off im assuming this isn't a full size keyboard with the number pad on the right.

so when you have a laptop keyboard some characters share with others, in your case numb lock has been pressed and is replacing the letter u with 4

hope this helps

CD spins but will not play

This will be due to the cd drive not being able to 'read' the disk correctly. Make sure the CD is spotless look for finger prints or scratches, if there are none, look to invest in a cd drive cleaning disk, ideally one with little bristles. Cd drives are relatively cheap though consider replacing it. Try other CD's..

Some of my letters are not working, how do i clean them inside and out? i have to use the on screen keyboard, to compose a post.

Cleaning the keyboard involves undoing all the retaining screws underneath the keyboard
I'd only attempt this if you have a model keyboard to work from as you will need to replace the keys in correct order afterwards, as and when one falls out

Once undone, the top and bottom halves will be ready to come apart, turn the keyboard over so that gravity holds the keys in position, remove the membrane carefully pull each key out in turn and wash it in soapy water, drying it thoroughly, replace and re-assemble

In point of fact the non working key issue is most likely down to a failed circuit anyway, so the job of cleaning the board may not work, you would be far better junking the keyboard and replacing it. I do mine every 12 months as the keyboard loses its action and replacing it is a cheap alternative to cleaning it

When I strike the apostrophe, quotation marks (or double appostrophe)appear. When I Shift + apostrophe, double quotations appear. Same thing happens with the tilde key. So far just these 2 keys...

Sounds like a defective keyboard. I seen issues when pressing a button it will trigger another key to be pushed or nothign displays at all. Try replacing keyboard since they are relatively cheap. othersie maybe a software issue

The letters "b" and "n"

there are programs you can use to erase the password but it is very easy to replace the keyboard.
I would suggest you type buy Dell Inspiron keyboard in to google an do the same on Ebay.
I did this for my friends laptop, the keyboard cost less than 10 pounds and had 2 ribbon connectors to remove the coffee stained old one.
You will need to buy some micro screwdrivers to open up the laptop.
No special skills are required to change keyboards, just give yourself a good bit of room on a desk to have the removed screws to hand.

Hey my mouse wont work help

How old is the mouse? Corded or cordless? PS2 or USB?

In general, for USB mice that don't work, check that the USB ports are working by trying the mouse in a different port. Try another (known working device) in the ports and see if that responds. If a PS2 to USB (or USB to PS2) adapter is in use, replace it or just replace the mouse (remember the mouse dongle is not interchangeable with a keyboard type).

Mice are relatively cheap and will fail. Corded mice will get a break in the cord over time - replacing them is simpler than trying to find the break. Cordless mice require checking the batteries and the receiver.

I hope this helps.

Keyboard malfunction. when spacing ; appears. key c does not wor. goes to address bar. v is pressed the number 4 also appears

Hi, keyboard malfunctiopns can be caused by a few things. One of the major causes is liquid (the stickier the worse) being spilt into the board but if you are sure thats what hasn't happened then there are are other options. Am assuming you are using a windows pc? Sometimes the computer can get confused with regional language settings(different countries have different keyboard layouts)
If this setting gets changed it can cause problems so try
  1. Get to the Control Panel in windows.
  2. Double-click Regional and Language Options.
  3. Click the Languages tab.
  4. In the Text Services and Input languages pane, click Details.
  5. In the Installed Services pane, click any keyboard listed other than US (US or UK depending on where you live), and then click Remove.
  6. When the confirmation message appears, click Yes.
  7. Repeat step 5 until all listed keyboards except US or UK are removed.(Hopefully this will have solved your prob. If not borrow a friends keyboard, try it out on your pc. If you dont get the same problems with the borrowed keyboard then something is wrong with yours and it probably needs replacing)

I have some melted keys on my acer aspire 3500 notebook i would like to replace those keysn how would i do this? i tried to call acer customer service but i could not get through

Replacing keys on laptops is really a pain, and would require scraping a keyboard to get the keys....Anyways you can buy a keyboard for your laptop relatively cheap from Ebay. Between 10-24 dollars. I took the liberty to do the ebay search and have provided you a linke to many keyboards just for your laptop.

Replacing a keyboard for HP Pavilion dv9815nr Notebook PC

I am assuming this is a laptop

Be very careful when handling internal parts that you do not
static zap them. Avoid staticky clothes, carpets etc.

Ground yourself to a water pipe, grounded metal appliance or
even the ground pin of a wall socket just before proceeding.
Very small static shocks, far less then a tingle, can permanently
damage the microchips inside a PC.

Also, the keyboard is probably held in place with a single small
screw and connected to the main board using a paper-thin
flexible printed circuit type ribbon connector. These connectors
are extremely fragile, yet very tightly held in place. Extreme
caution is needed when pulling them out, and it is even more
difficult to plug them back in.

Any physical damage, tearing or abrasion to the ribbon on
the new keyboard will permanently destroy it.

You will need bent long-nose pliers or plastic tweezers to
do this.

Good luck,
