Hi do you notice any frost in the back of the freezer? If you do not this is a bad motherboard, I would recommend calling GE directly if under 5 years old they will fix at an extremely discounted price if it over 5 then the board costs about $175.00-200.00 to buy.
I have owned this fridge for less than 5 years. I had the same problem..very annoying...come to find out that the motherboard controlling the fan went bad. I will never own another GE fridge again, too many problems with GE. I paid for a sevice tech to come out and fix/replace the motherboard..$150.00 later and now the freezer portion doesn't seal and is always defrosting! I cleaned and checked all the gaskets, even cleaned the coils...still no solution. Time to put this dinosaur on craiglist and buy Samsung.
Greetings,
First of, use a hair drier to melt away the ice. the return vent is maybe froze over and not allowing the air to circulate from freezer into refrigerator. The air fflows from freezer into top fresh food section...it then drops down and is returned at the bottom( most are like this, however it varies with brands)...clear this off, and then you may want to look at the freezer evaporator as well...it may be frosted as well..have you had water on the floor under the freezer door? if so, your drain may be the culprit for both problems....
The drain is frozen up. The fan what provides the cooling air for the fridge is stuck in the ice. Remove the vegie crisper and pop the bottom under the crisper s out. Also remove the Styrofoam plate. You will see the problem right in front of you. Use a hairdryer to get rid of the ice build up. Good luck
Air circulation problem. Evaporator fan in freezer moves some air to refrig. Either fan is not working or air passages are blocked with ice. If ice found, then a defrost component failure has occurred. Fix what you find.
Newer GE refrigerators use variable speed DC fan motors to improve energy efficiency. Fan speed is determined by the electronic control board. Your refrig is working as designed.
Please don't rate solution, as anything but a Fix-Ya lowers my overall score. Thanks.
