Not sure why my remote won't work any more. Had the tv since May 2008 and my remote and tv worked just fine. Now, we noticed a probles when we played a DVD (which we have done since purchase) and the remote just stopped functioning.
I wanted to try to troubleshoot before buying a new one. I have changed to fresh batteries and the backlight works but not the buttons on the remote.
There is a very strong chance that something foreign has gotten into the touch membrane for your remote control or the link from the touch pad to the circuit board. If it is still under warranty, get it replaced. If it is not under warranty a new universal remote may be on your next shopping list. Repairs to OEM remote controls cost more than a new one.

Check the remote control for its infrared emission from infrared LED at its front. Do not assume that the remote control is OK, as the indicator LED on it lights up. It is only an indication that the remote control circuit accepts the keystrokes. Just visit this site [Eectro-help]. You will get all details about how to check a remote control. All details are given there. Pull up older posts there. Search for it either by Yahoo or Google. Make sure that the remote control is correct in all respect first. I assumes that the remote control you possess now is the original remote control of the set. Not a universal one. If it is a universal one, this type of fault can occur, because all universal remote controls won't respond to some functions.
Now,u plug in the tv u get a solid red standby power red LED light in the front of the LCD panel right? When u push the power button on the remote u hear a clicking sound?Only one clicking sound, not the power supply board problems. It the Tuner board problems. But u can make sure it the power board problems or not.By taking the tv aparts check the power board, that board where the a/c power cord goes into it.Look all around the power supply board check for these leakage capacitors, they alway bulges up it top or puff up it top.No bad leakage capacitors, then it not the power supply board problems.
Philips TV model 34PW9815 the LED on the front of the unit turns green when first plugged into electrical outlet, and then immediately starts to flash red. nothing on the unit works and it doesnt respond to controls either on the set or the remote
If you can change channels with remote then TV is OK because it has only one infra red receiver (remote receiver) to catch remote signals. So TV remote seems bad as it works on channel buttons only. Here is an easy test for remote, watch remote front through any digital camera or even cellular phone camera will work and press channel button on remote, you will see blinking LED at front of remote while watching it through camera. Now press other buttons of remote and I'm sure that LED wont blink.
