Hard drive light stays on and system freezes

My Emachines T2792 keeps freezing intermittently, the hard drive light stays on and the system freezes. I tried making sure the CPU was cool enough but it didn't seem to help. I also tried replacing the hard drive and reloading everything, it helped for about a day and the same problem occurred. Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks!

My T2792 did the same thing.I took off the cover, and found that if I just barely touched the power supply connector to the MB, it would lock up, or shut off.I used a small screwdriver to tighten the contacts on the plug from the power supply, and the problem disappeared.I jammed the screwdriver along each connector on the plug from the supply to tighten each contact.

You may have a hardware problem of some sort. The first place I'd start is to check the power supply voltages. If one or more voltages is off tolerance, this will cause all sorts of symptoms. if you have a voltmeter check especially the +5, +3.3, +12, & +5 standby voltages. Use this site as a reference http://pinouts.ru/Power/atx_v2_pinout.shtml If the supply checks out faulty, buy a replacement, or, if tech savvy, you might repair it-- probable component defects= one or more electrolytic capacitors. Other possible problems are Memory errors (try subbing a RAM stick), hard drive developing errors, or a bad chip on the motherboard. If you have some spare parts, RAM, hard disk, you can try subbing parts and narrow down the problem.

Emachines laptop keep freezing and making loud buzzing noise when i listen to music. please help

The buzzing/grinding noise is probably a bad connection if you are using earphones. Put a couple of drops of rubbing alcohol on some toilet paper and clean the prong for your earphones. Wait a minute and reinsert the plug into the jack. As for the freezing up of the video, you might want to download and install your video drivers for your emachine. Go to the manufacturer's web page to find the right ones. Don't forget to reboot after installations.

Make sure you are using it on a hard flay surface, the fans underneath need to pull in air to keep the cpu cool. Also make sure the fan is working underneath. Make sure you do not have a lot of applications running at the same time as it will bog down your system. There is a free software called speedfan that can let you see the temp and fan speeds of your machine, google it. "DO NOT CHANGE YOUR FAN SETTINGS!!!" This program is good for seeing the temp of your cpu , but if you go and start changing settings you can damage your system. I would watch speedfan to make sure the temp stays constant and that the fan doesn't intermittently stop.

Why does my toshiba satelite keep freezing up after startup ?

Try to restart it and make sure any accessory plugged into it is unplugged. i.e. ipod, mouse, external hard drive. If still freezing up, see if you can get to task manager, by pressing the clt, alt, del keys all at the same time the manager should pop up. then click on the performance tab, and see what your cpu usage is at. if its pegged at 90% or higher and does not get better you have lost your hard drive...I would also try a system reboot to refresh the system if you can just to make sure its not software related good luck

Dimension 3000 keeps freezing

Sounds to me like the hard drive might be going bad. Bad sectors on the hard drive can cause the freezing to happen.

If you have a spare known working hard drive, put that one into the system and then install windows xp on it and see what happens.

If that doesn't do it then try each memory stick one at a time in each slot one at a time and see if the freezing goes away. If it does then you know its a memory stick problem.

Also unseat and reseat the CPU into the slot and make sure there is not dust or dirt in the socket that the CPU sits in.

After all of this if you still have freeze up problems then the motherboard is bad.

It keeps freezing.

Sounds like your is overheating. You might want to make sure your CPU fan is spinning. Another good thing you can do is download a little program called speedfan http://www.filehippo.com/download_speedfan/
this will tell you the internal temp of your processor and hard drives and if your fans are running. If the fans are running and the cpu is staying cool, I would then do a full bios test on the hard drive itself as well as a chkdsk /x through a command prompt on the hard drive (from safe mode). Let me know if these don't resolve the issue.

How is your cpu cooler? Sounds like it could be a heat issue. How long before it freezes? Will it actually boot through to the operating system or freeze on start up? If it runs for a while then freezes it sure could be overheating.
