Question about Gateway Profile 5.5 PC Desktop
I have profile 5.5, Pentium 4, 2.8 ghz; at first the screen would go blank while running start up items, ie the printer the screen would go black but the processor lights keeps running. I feel some air movement from air vents on the side. I thought the harddrive was to full and deleted some unneeded programs and files. This seem to work and stayed on longer but then the screen went blank. I once got it run a diagnostics through windows and it said something about the video card drivers. But never got the chance to reinstall drivers. The screen is totally black but the processor lights still blinks like a normal startup. Is the video card replaceable or do i have to replace the motherboard...I do not want to buy a new computer...
I seriously doubt that video drivers are the issue that you face right now. Windows will normally default to VGA mode 640X480 when video drivers can not or will not load properly.
The Gateway Profile 5.5 all in one computer is based on a combination of laptop and desktop technology, with the former most prevalent.
You will need to go to the Gateway web site to find your specific computer and determine if a video card replacement is possible for your unit. Some laptop motherboards have a socket and card for the video graphics array card, some do not, and since I am not up to speed on the Gateway Profile 5.5, I am not sure, but you can be by going to the web site.
Hope this helps

If the video card is an "onboard type" Is is not easy to replace. If you have a seperate video card, you may replace it with a like type, PCI, AGP,PCIe,etc. or if you computer has an open slot a video card can be added and turn off the "onboard video" in start up screen BIOS . Since this is a GATEWAY(I do not know the model) computer you also always have the option of a complete restore . Below is their website to download al the info:
