Question about Brother HL 8050N Laser Printer
Could you please tell me what the problem is?
Can i fix it myself.
The Service Error #50 is basically a Fusing Unit problem and you may actually find out that you may have to replace that assembly, to correct that error condition.
E50 means fuser malfunction. Try to print a configuration sheet (press 3 x set). If that doesn't work, you've to change the fuser.
There is probably caked ink and dust on a wire connection that touches the grey roller of the fuser (that has two rollers). It seems this will happen to a lot of the brothers. You just clean the connection. It's simple, but you have to get to it by removing a lot of screws, pieces, and wire jacks.
Remove top cover, and various plastic pieces in the back to get to the fuser. Then take out the fuser and find the 2 black wires that lead to the problem piece that needs to be cleaned.
When you have gotten to the fuser, remove the two wire jack connections. Remove the two screws holding fuser in. One of those screws is big with a spring - don't worry, the spring stays in place. The other screw looks normal, but it is a little longer than the other screws so remember where you lay it. Find the 2 black wires on the fuser leading to the problem piece. Remove the single screw holding it in. Pull it out and clean the wire connections. Now put things back together!
This is really specialist work (the taking apart and putting back together) for a simple cleaning end. Not for the faint-hearted!
It will either be a complete nightmare or a fun project for you..
I would personally take it to a specialist and get an estimate, and measure that against the price of a new printer. But, if you feel brave and have nothing to lose, have a go..
So you know what the problem is, but can you fix it yourself? Well that's down to you, I can't answer that ;)
