Question about Magellan Maestro 4040 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Dead pixels Have used the Magellan 4250 for about 6 times when the screen started showing dead pixels. I amd very dissaapointed in the qaulity for cost of this unit. I won't buy another magellan product because of this problem. the screen is splatered with black traces. The only solution for this that I would accept is refund or product repalcement. I have a Garmin that does not have this problem.

My magellan maestro just stop working it will not turn on

there may or may not be anything wrong with it, but id be surprised if there wasnt. this model is by far the worst magellan has ever put out, IMHO, it is plagued with problems right out of the box.

wont start, restarts, wont charge because of the faulty usb connector, freezes, white screen, problems with the digitizer, the screen become littered with dead pixels and on and on.

anyway, charge your 4250 good for a few hours via the usb cable to your computer, the press and hold the power button for up to ten seconds or until it starts, if that fails, let me know and ill give you something else to try.

good luck

Maestro 4250 frozen after incomplete 2009 map up date

I had same problem on 3/28/09.

According to Magellan and other people who have experienced the same problem, this is terminal to the unit. It can be caused by downloading the 08/09 Magellan map upgrade, which can cause the unit to permanently lock up. Magellan is well aware of the problem, and should offer to replace your unit if you have the problem. If you elect to have it repaired, Magellan can download the map upgrade for you in the repair process. Here is a site noting the same problem:

Questions for Magellan: 1) why would they sell, in 2009, gps units with old 2007 maps loaded in them, requiring the purchaser to buy a current map, and 2) if there is a problem with downloading the current maps, why is there not an advisement or warning to the installer.

Other than replacing the unit, there appears to be no "fix".

My Magellan Maestro 4250 got a lot of small black dots on the screen spread out on the right and side. Then most of them moved so they are now clustered together in a small circle on the right side. ...

It seems to me that you may have some dead pixels on your screen and the only fix is a new or good used screen.
I purchased a unit off ebay that had software issues and now my unit works great.
Hope this helps you out

No a practical solution, but at least you will get your device repair, after being on hold for 40 minutes I spoke to a very nice rep, unfortunately evethough she didn't admit it, it seems a software problem with the new 2008/2009 map update, in other words no way to fix it, you need to send it for repair, make sure you tell them to update the device with the new 2008/2009 Maps, if not you will have the same problem later on, Good Luck
