If you have a silver metal braided line to water source that is your problem. Replace mine with a braided vinyl line and it cured it. ps flush new line for about two minutes.

Why does the ice from ice maker have an awful smell and taste? Is there a filter that needs to be replaced?

i found that the previous homowners hooked the icemaker to soft water instead of hard water. Once I changed it to hard water, both ice cubes and water tasted fine.

Water would not stop running into icemaker, now

The water inlet valve(where the water supply connects to the back) may have been staying open and now has burned so it don't work at all. . You can swap the wires on the dual water inlet valve and disconnect the water line at the valve which goes to the ice maker. When you try the water dispenser the water will come out there. When you stop the water dispenser, if the water at the valve doesn't stop, the valve isn't closing so you'll need to replace it.

After 2yrs of not using the icemaker, moved

Good day,
Pour water from small paper cup until it near fills the well of the ice maker. With the lever down, close freezer door and wait 2 to 3 hours. If it dumps then the ice maker should be good, if not, replace ice maker.
If dumps O.K. then the dual water valve is bad, and needs replaced.
You should check the fill tube that runs from the back of the machine to see if it is blocked with ice. (requires removing ice maker) but even so, if it is iced, you'll need to clear, but the water valve in the back rear of the machine is leaking and still needs replaced.

Ice maker in refridgerator freezer won't make ice. It seems as if the water is going up into the freezer but no Ice is being produced. The ice tray has frozen ice in it, but it will not dump it in the ice...

Sometimes icemakers get all frozen up, such that the motor cannot turn to eject the ice. Also, in some cases the water supply line freezes up, although that does not sound like your problem.

Try leaving the freezer open to defrost it manually and see if it starts working by itself. Also, the icemaker motors can and do fail. In some cases you smell an acrid burning smell when the motor fails.

Not making ice, indoor water spout working

Check the temperature in the freezer. The temperature must be below 0 degrees for most icemakers to perform properly.

Machine oil in my ice

JG,
The reason I wanted your model number is to see if your fridge has a built in filter. It doesn't. Have you considered connecting one to your incoming water line? You can find one here or at any local hardware store (Home Depot, Lowes, Ace, etc...).

Your ice maker won't introduce oil into your ice. Neither will your water inlet valve. So the source of you contaminant must be coming from your incoming water supply.

Replace your water filter and totally clean your icemaker. Check the drip pan under the unit if you can smell it through the whole house. You have more than an icemaker issue.
