Hi, if you can connect to the internet via ethernet cable or on a different computer you can down load the driver from several different locations, or just go to Toshiba's web site. This is a alternative http://driverscollection.com/?H=Tecra%20M5&By=Toshiba

If you see a very dim image or black screen or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.
Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Hello,
I also have a tecra 8100 and my machine developed this exact problem. After much work, I finally figured out that it was a problem with the memory apparatus that holds the memory in place after it is installed. The memory modules are held in place by a cheap little plastic clasp. This clasp was no longer holding the memory far enough down in place and was causing an error when my machine tried to POST. As soon as I wedged something between the RAM and the access panel on the back(thus pressing the memory farther down in place), the machine worked fine from then onward. This is only a possible solution, don't take it as gospel. It's only one man's experience with his laptop.
