Switched to cable(arris modem) can't set up network

Since I switched to a bundled cable pkg. I've been unable to set up my network. My netgear router can't seem to work with the arris modem, and my belkin adapter can't pick up the signal. It's driving me nuts as I've tried everything. Cable says it's the router, they say it's the modem, they say it's the adapter etc. Cable said their system is too fast for my router. Help me!

I have one pc hard wired to the arris modem. I am trying to set-up network with a router and wireless adapter (netgear router, belkin adapter) everthing was working until I switched to cable from dsl. Now I'm unable to setup the network.

Thanks, I tried that but it still does not work. The new modem is a telephony one one with a battery back-up so I believe that this may be the problem. Since, I unplug, (to power down) but it may still not fully be down to reconize the netgear router since it has a battery back-up (2 hrs).

Providors use mac address to identify the modems used on their systems. That is why, if you add a wireless router, the router software should have the ability to let you copy the MAC address of the modem. That way the providor only sees one mac address.

This will work i suppose.it did for my aris cable modem.

Remove the Backup battery
Unplug power from the modem
Plug the new router into cable modem (while the modem is still off)
Wait for the router to have its lights runnning.
power the cable modem.
put battery back in

this worked me when i switched from my buffalo router to dlink and tried also with directly to my computer and it let it work.

i guess the cable modem remembers mac addressses or something and if it doesn't match then it won't go through (but that's a guess)

Cable dsl same thing. Did you switch providers and get new modem from them? If so. Just delete previous netowrk and install new one let pc discover new one. Also, with your router you got a disc. It should install correctly. Perhaps it is previous network that is hindering you.

Three things in the system. Modem, router, computer/xbox. You changed the router and problem still exists. The computer/xbox is calling for the data but the modem is stopping it even though your provider doesn't see it stop. Change the modem. Borrow one if you can but I suspect it is going glitchy.

How to connect netgear fs108 to cable modem

leeb..... switches cannot be connected to the Cable modem.... because NAT will not be enabled in cable modem....so there wont be any DHCP server present in the cable modem....
Nat will be enabled only in DSL modem like AT&T verizon etc....So DHCP server will be present inside DSL modem...that is the reason why switches can be connected only to the DSL modem....
With NAT enabled modem, switch will work as a switch.... With NAT disabled modem, switch will work as a hub.... This is the difference....
Any doubts further ? please clarify with me.... I am ready to help you....

We have just signed up for cable TV/high speed internet/cable telephone. The modem provided is an "Arris" version 1.5. The cable tech said I could connect my Belkin G router so that more than one computer...

Plug the ethernet net cord into the arris ethernet port. plug the other end into the router where it says "internet"

Plug a ethernet cable from one of the router ports to the computer.

First start up the arris modem, then power up the router, then start the computer.

Getting error message: Invalid Ip address

This would normally mean that you have assigned the IP address manually but have also given that same IP to another computer and they are fighting about it.

If this is the case then just check your IP allocations and find out which computer is using the same IP and change it to one that is not in use.

It may also mean that your router is trying to use the same IP as your modem

With just your modem connected to the computer

go to the START MENU / RUN then type CMD and press enter.

Now in the black screen type IPCONFIG /ALL

Take note of the numbers esp in the default gateway, that is your modem)

Now with just the router connected by wire do the same thing.

This time the default gateway is your router if it is the same as your modem then you need to alter it in your router,

You haven't given a model so you will have to work this bit out yourself but your are looking for a setting on your router that starts with the same number you got.
If your default router gateway was lets say 192.168.1.1 then that is what you would be looking for. Change the third block so now it reads 192.168.2.1 and save the settings. This would clear any conflict between modem and router.

If you have assigned IP's to computers they would need to be changed to reflect the routers new IP and again you would just change the third block in the allocated IP to a 2

If in doubt read this a couple of times or print it out.

DSL connection not being shared by Linksys RV042 Dual Wan router

Looks like your "modem" is actually a gateway, as is common with DSL devices. It's acting like a modem and a router. So you're actually connecting a router to your RV42. You could get this to work a couple ways.
1. Leave the modem acting like a router and configure the WAN connection on the RV42 as a static IP, and use the IP of the modem. You may also be able to use "obtain IP automatically" in the WAN connection. This way, the modem stores your PPOE information and just forwards the traffic to the RV42. Any devices behind the RV42 won't know the difference.
2. Configure the modem as just a modem (no routing). Your ISP should be able to talk you through this, but in the modem configuration you can look for what's usually called "bridged mode." Then you would enter the PPOE information in the RV42. This is my preferred method.

ARRIS Modem + D-Link router = no internet

when you are on Cable Internet with a "modem" only connected directly to the computer, what the ISP see is the computer's MAC Address (command prompt -> type ipconfig and hit enter).

put a router (which has it's own MAC Address) in-between and the ISP wont let you cause it sees the router not the computer.

check physical connection: cable modem -> router -> computer(hard wire for this troubleshooting)

access the d-link gui and locate the “Clone MAC Address" button (supposed to clone the computers MAC Address - verify if it's the same), save settings & reboot the router.

I cant get out to the internet when I connect the netgear router.

Be sure that your cable company has enabled your internet. Power down the cable modem, power down any routers and computers. Start cable modem first, after internet connectivity is indicated, power up the router (if you have one) and then power upi the pc
