You are getting on the Internet okay, I guess? If so, do you also have a firewall program (Norton Internet Security, ZoneAlarm, etc.) running in the background? If you do, you'll have to go into the firewall software and configure it for Skype access.

I paid 10.00 and set up a skype but cannot call anyone

SKYPE has a "built-in" test-call, to confirm that your microphone and your speakers are working correctly. Did you run that test? Did it succeed?

Is your computer connected to a "corporate" network?
If so, the system administrators may be "blocking" the use of SKYPE through their network.

Frequent VPN connection drop on my wifi

If you can't connect via the Internet to your workplace network from home (or another location), check the items in this list:

  • Make sure that you typed the virtual private network (VPN) server name exactly as provided by your network administrator.

  • You must have an active Internet connection for a VPN connection to work.

  • If your modem is external, make sure that the modem power is turned on.

  • Contact your network administrator to make sure that you have the appropriate connection and domain permissions on the remote access server.

  • This could be a certificate problem. For assistance, contact your network administrator.

  • A VPN connection won't work with an active Winsock proxy client. Contact your network administrator to make sure the Winsock proxy client is not enabled.

  • If you know the IP address (for example: 131.107.10.25) of a website, type that address in the address bar of your web browser and press Enter. If this works, there is probably a Domain Name System (DNS) resolution problem. For assistance, contact your network administrator.

  • If you have special software that's required or installed by your workplace, it could be part of the problem. For assistance, contact your network administrator.

  • If you know the IP address (for example: 131.107.10.25) of your VPN server, type that address for the VPN connection, and then press Enter. If this works, there is probably a DNS resolution problem. For assistance, contact your network administrator.

  • There could be a problem with the server you're trying to connect to. For assistance, contact your network administrator.

If you try to connect with a VPN connection and you see a message that says "The local computer does not support encryption" and has the error code 741, it's possible that the encryption that your computer uses doesn't match the encryption used by the VPN server. To change the encryption settings so that your computer uses the recommended setting of 3DES, follow these steps:

  1. Open Connect to a Network by clicking the network icon (eff2d36c-9e0d-4d1a-9859-3af14fa4ccfc_73.jpg or da12251d-1e9a-4032-afae-009876c6c5a3_80.jpg) in the notification area.

  2. Right-click the VPN connection, and then click Properties.

  3. Click the Security tab.

  4. Under Data encryption, select Maximum strength encryption (disconnect if server declines), and then click OK.

  5. Open Connect to a Network by clicking the network icon (eff2d36c-9e0d-4d1a-9859-3af14fa4ccfc_73.jpg or da12251d-1e9a-4032-afae-009876c6c5a3_80.jpg) in the notification area.

  6. Click the VPN connection, and then click Connect to try connecting again.

Hi there im not sure what the issue is but my skype connection is always slow and have no idea what it could be or how to fix it, i have a fast internet connecton, could any one help me in the right...

Do a speedtest here:
http://www.speedtest.net
This will tell you the speed of your internet connection. If the results here are low compared to what speed you think you should be getting, contact your ISP who can perform tests at their end to tell if the problem is with them or your computer.
If the problem is with your computer (or you want to try this before contacting your ISP) run scans with the following programs, in safe mode if possible:
http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html
http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html
These will find and remove any spyware or malware which may have infected your computer and cause it to slow down.
If none of the above helps and the problem is specific to Skype, uninstall it from the Programs and Features section of the Control Panel. Then restart your computer, and reinstall it by downloading the latest version from here:
http://www.skype.com/
Best of luck!

Cant connect to my office router it ask to enter key what is this

Hi,
For security reasons, the wifi router is always configured with a key. This will prevent unauthorized persons to access the internet via your wifi router.
You have to ask the administrator who configured router to get the key and you have to provide the saem when prompted in your computer/laptop in order to connect to your office router.

I hope this is helpful for you.
Thanks

Can't connect\, can't sign in

Hi,

To help resolve some common connection issues on Windows Vista, please
follow these steps:

1) Please make sure, that you are running the latest version of Skype
that you can download from http://skype.com/go/download

2) If Skype is running, please close it by right-clicking on the Skype
icon in the system tray (next to the clock) and selecting Quit Skype or
via File > Close.

3) If you are behind proxy server, make sure you have set all proxy
settings in Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Connections >
LAN settings and in Skype under Tools > Options > Connection.

4) If you are using Windows Firewall,
Go to Start menu > Control Panel > Windows firewall > Change settings
and select the Exceptions tab. Find Skype from the list, select it by
clicking on it once and press Delete. Click on Add Program and select
Skype from the list. If Skype is not on the list, click Browse and go to
C:\Program Files\Skype\ Phone\ and select skype.exe. Close the windows
by pressing OK button.

5) If you are using any other firewalls or anti-virus software, please
make sure, that Skype is in the exceptions list. We have firewall
guides at http://www.skype.com/help/guides/firewall.html .
If your firewall or anti-virus software is not listed there, please
follow the guide supplied with your software or contact the software
manufacturer for step by step instructions.

6) If you are using a router, please configure port forwarding for
Skype. You can find guides for an extensive list of routers on
http://www.portforward.com/english/applica.../Skypeindex.htm
Please note that we are not responsible for this page and contents
might change unexpectedly.

7) Start Skype

Make sure your status is set to online via "File" > "Change Online
Status" > select "Online".

If the above did not help, please try the following:
Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools and start 'Windows
Firewall with advanced security'. If you don't see "Administrative
tools" in the Control Panel, please make sure, that the Classic Mode is
selected from the left side of the Control Panel window.

Click 'Inbound Rules' > 'New Rule'. Make sure 'Program' is selected.
Click 'Next'. Select 'This program path' and click Browse. Browse to
C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe. Click 'Open'. You are taken back
to the rules creation window, click 'Next'.

Check 'Allow the connection' and click 'Next'.

Make sure that all three options are ticked: 'Domain', 'Private',
'Public' and click 'Next'.
In the Name box type 'Rules for Skype' or whatever you like.
Description may be left empty. Click Finish.

Now select 'Outbound Rules'.

Click 'New Rule'. In the window that pops up make sure 'Program' is
selected.
Click 'Next'. Select 'This program path' and click Browse. Browse to
C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe. Click 'Open'. You are taken back
to the rules creation window, there click 'Next'.

Check 'Allow the connection' and click 'Next'.

Make sure that all three options are ticked: 'Domain', 'Private',
'Public' and click 'Next'.
In the Name box type 'Rules for Skype' or whatever you like.
Description may be left empty. Click Finish.

Please restart your computer after doing this and try launching Skype
thereafter.

Finally you could try below:
This is a regular Vista idiocy, occurring from time to time to random applications and has nothing to do with Skype. Thanks, Mr. Gates.

How to fix it:

1. Go to your Skype program directory, then navigate to the subdirectory Phone.
2. Right-click the Skype executable, select Properties.
3. Go to Compatibility tab.
4. Select compatibility mode, and choose Run this program in compatibility mode - Windows XP Service Pack 2.
