Go to the Device Manager. Start>Right-Click on My Computer>Properties>Hardware tab>Device Manager. Find your CD/DVD in the list of hardware and click on the "+" sign to expand it and see your brand and model of CD/DVD device. If there is a yellow! or a redX then it is either disabled are is corrupted, just right-click and update driver.. Even if it does not say anything, right click it and update driver. Sounds like your CD ROM has driver problems.

If there is a yellow! then that is good. It means we have a few things we can try. It's when you see nothing and it doesn't work that makes it hard. Right click on it again and make sure it says "enabled"...then post to me again and let me know what happens.

Downloaded new version of itunes now i cant burn cds

you have to set the process up again Burning CDs in iTunes is easy and requires no setup.
But if you are an advanced user, you may want to tweak the settings a bit. Here's how you can set CD burning preferences in iTunes:

Open up iTunes on your computer. Click Edit and then select Preferences. Click the Advanced tab. Click the Burning tab within the Advanced tab. Set your preferred speed. From the drop-down menu, choose a burn speed for your CD burner. Choose a format. Audio CDs are for playing in your stereo or CD player. MP3 CDs can hold more songs, but need a special type of CD player to be read. Data CDs are for backing up songs, and can only be read by computers. Choose a gap between songs. By default, iTunes puts a gap of silence between each song. You can change this option from the drop-down menu. Use the Sound Check feature. This option will automatically adjust the volume on your songs so they will be the same volume on the CD. Include the CD text option. This will give the CD the title of the playlist to be displayed by a stereo or CD player that supports CD text. Click OK to save your preferences.

Cannot burn audio cd with iTunes

Maybe iTunes don't want your burning their music. I'm not sure cuz I don't use Itunes, but if it works on others that sounds like it might be the problem.

Here I found the below on Apple's site.

Symptoms Find out what to do if you can't burn an audio CD using iTunes for Windows. Sometimes an audio disc may not burn as expected. Here are some things to check.
Resolution Update iTunes Download and install the latest version of iTunes for Windows.
Songs not authorized iTunes will stop burning a disc if one or more of the songs in a playlist were purchased from the iTunes Store but are not authorized to play on this computer. This message appears:
"Some of the files can not be burned to an audio CD. Do you still want to burn the remainder of this playlist? For more information on why some files can not be burned, click below".

There's more so click the link below and see why you can't burn your cd.

4280 failure when burning cds using itunes. Never had this problem until now. Compaq Presario SR1030.

Try burning with another software and see what the max burn rate is. If it is highter, then remove itunes and reinstall.
If it doesn't burn well either use a cd cleaner and try again. If still a low burn speed then you need a new cd burner.

My Compaq Presario desktop will not burn CDs

Hi,
Perform a system restore and take the computer back to a time before the problems started with burning, or you can download a different media player and try burning with that, real player as a good bit of software to use for burning and Nero is too (Nero is a devoted burning suite)

Get real player here >>>>>>

http://uk.real.com/realplayer/

Get Nero 9 here >>>>>>

Good luck

Cd burner won't work.

Could be several things, try a different brand of cds. if that is a no go...try this, go into the device manager and click on DVD/CD-ROM drives and get your exact model of burner. then go to this page: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=INSP_DSKTP_D531S&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=&impid= and find that one and download and install the drivers. also looking for firmware updates and Urgent updates.
It isn't that bad to do...good luck hope this helped,, please leave a rating.

When i try to burn some music onto my TDK cd the sonic record window appears everytime saying load a blank cd and ejects the TDK cd from the D drive. I have tried other TDK cd,s but the problem persists....

Sometimes there are firmware updates that update the compatibility of the burner with more brands and more formats. It could also be a bad batch of discs. Maybe try a different brand. Or do the CDs work in a different burner. Maybe the burner is bad or going bad. And just JFY, there are no CD+R only CD-R and RW

More information

Is this internal or external? If it is external try a different port (USB?). Now days most hardware is plug and play and Windows should find this on it's own. Did you get software with the new unit. If so install that. If not go to Add Hardware Wizard in Control Panel. This will force Windows to search for new devices. If it still won't find it you may have to go to the Mfg. website to download the software. Of course be sure all cables are connected properly. Also check the jumpers on the unit (Master, Slave, Cable Select). Also check in Device Manager to see if it shows up there. If you know how to get into BIOS, see if it is showing up in the BIOS. Also is it saying it can not find the CD burning software? Maybe that needs to be re-installed also. That is all I can think of right now.

MY PC no longer "burns" cds-but there is no "error" message

My only suggestion is to borrow another burner if possible and see if you get the same error with with that one. This will be the simplest way to determine if you have a software problem or if your burner has a fault.

Wont burn cds , files , etc

well it could be many reasons why it wont write your burner but first what software you are using for burning. it happens to me before using media player when i try to burn music. the reason was i haven't configure my media player to use my dvd burner for burning because i have dvd burner and a cd burner installed. Now maybe you try to reinstall it using your dvd driver the one which with your dvd burner when you first bought it.
