The error happens at shutdown, and reads in full " The Exception Breakpoint has been reached 0x8000003 at 0x7c839a95".

I researched on the Microsift site, and it mentions some issues with memory and Application handling, and Page Heap, but nothing specific to this. I did change both memory sticks, upped to 2Gb, but error continues.

The laptop boots fine and runs fine except for this error at shutdown.

This has been going on for some time. I have looked into it as time permits, as it is my son's laptop he uses for college.

I could shut down some running programs before shutdown as this may pinpoint the offending app.

When you're shutting down, it seems that one of the running programs doesn't like being shut down, and is going belly-up as a result. Is this a recent issue? Did you recently install software? Post back.

With that little bit of info, you may want to check out a couple of things...

(a) See if there isn't some file-sharing software on there (Limewire comes to mind) and get rid of it.
(b) Try booting to safe mode and running an online virus scan from http://www.bitdefender.com or http://www.trendmicro.com. He may have gotten dinged with something bad that is crashing at shut down. I hope this helps.

I need win xp drivers for a toshiba l300 laptop that previously had vista on it. I have gotten win xp to load but I need some drivers

Click or copy and paste the link below to your browser address bar. It will take you to the XP driver section in the Toshiba Support Page, when it comes up...click on the drop down menu for all operating systems and choose XP with SP2, and SP3. Your drivers will be there.

Missing VGA out port signal

According to the specs for this laptop it comes with Vista. Because of that I am assuming you have put XP on it in place of Vista and I am also assuming that you just need to install some additional drivers from Dell. Click Here to go to Dell's driver listing for the Inspiron 6400 and make sure Win XP is selected as the OS and download the correct Video driver.

Breakpoint has been reached. Computer won't start up.

It could be a memory or HDD problem. Have you changed your ram and tried?

Steven,

it could be a heat realted, can you get to the cpu cooler? most laptops i have worked on this is accessible by lifting the keyboard.

Give it a blow out with a compressed air can and see if that works, if not try lifting the cpu cooler and cleaning off old thermal paste and reapplying new.

Regards

Nick
