Question about Tomtom One XL GPS Receiver

1 Answer

GPS accuracy While testing my new GPS I found out my address appears to be 250-300 ft from where my house is. I called TomTom and was told to hold the power button down for 30 sec then leave it off for at least 15 min. It didn't work. Is it possible to achive accuracy or do I need to return for another brand?

That didn't work. I found a website that gives you the latitude and longitude for an address. I entered those instead of my address. It is very accurate now. The web address is Kind of a neat site. There are some addresses where you can actually see a picture.

    Thanks for your help.

If you have the unit set up with showing a lot of pois, then this will occur. Try to minmize the amount of pois showing to see if that helps...

How do use tomtom

TomTom's GPS devices provide consumers with portable navigation solutions. Download maps, view turn by turn updates and listen to spoken directions on trips across town or across the country. TomTom has a variety of GPS products, but basic use and inputting destination information are almost identical across the board. If you're just taking your TomTom out of the box, you'll need to perform a few extra steps to complete set up. I am listing the 7 steps to use TomTom below;

1. Ensure your TomTom unit is fully charged. A full charge requires approximately two hours. Power the unit by pressing and holding the "On/Off" button for approximately two seconds. Make sure you are in an unobstructed area. Wait for the Tom Tom to power up and acquire a satellite signal.

2. Answer the on-screen questions to set up your device. The questions only appear if this is the first time you've used your Tom Tom. Otherwise, the driving view and your current location will be displayed.

3. Tap the center of the screen to open the main menu. Tap "Navigate To" and then tap "Address."

4. Choose the option that describes how you wish to enter the address you are navigating to. You may tap "City Center," "Street and House Number," "Zip Code" or "Cross Street or Intersection." To enter an exact address, choose the "Street and House Number" option.

5. Type in the requested information by tapping the letters or numbers on the screen. As you type, matching town and street names will appear in a list format. Choose the correct option from the list when it is displayed by tapping it. If prompted, enter the house number by tapping the corresponding numbers on the screen. When you are finished, tap "Done".

6. Select "Yes" or "No" when asked if you need to arrive at a particular time. If "Yes" is chosen, follow the instructions to enter in the desired arrival time.
Finally, follow the on screen and spoken directions to reach your destination.

My Tomtom 300 Go won't charge?

It appears that the battery will not hold a (good) charge anymore. If it is still under warranty, contact TomTom to address that problem. They may replace the unit for you.
It is not unusual for (rechargeable) batteries to loose it's capability to hold a good charge if it is plugged in (to a power source) all the time, even while it is not in use.

No maps found tomtom

So it told you no map was found when you enter an address? You can check with some other ways than entering the address such as name of building. If there is a problem loading the map, you will need to download a new map from their web site and update your map. If there is a problem connecting with the satellite you can try to start it a couple more times and see whether you get a better connetion with a new request.

It says "no maps found"

I had the same problem before on a TomTom GO 730. The free internal memory was too small to hold the updated map so installation failed (the download to PC was OK, the message is misleading).
It's a TomTom software bug to not check on the available free memory properly before the update process is started.
My TomTom device required a new software install from scratch. Remove any excess MP3 or unused voices before you retry the update.

Wrong address?

More than likely your house number is not in the data base. I have the same problem. What I have done is when you want to setup your tt home address go where you get full bars and are ready to navigate. Go to set home address and tap current location as your home address.
Hope this helps.

Innacurate Garmin Nuvi

The accuracy of your garmin is actually good. The accuracy is only as good as the accuracy of the addresses that Garmin got from every municipality.

You can not recalibrate the unit but you can reset the "home" setting by parking exactly where you want to call home and then setting that location as home.

Please rate my answer as a FixYa! Thanks

GPS Accuracy

I had a similar problem. It was that the street addressing was wrong. Our street for example only physically goes to 199. But the software shows it goes to 299. This offsets all the address on the street, the farther I go the worse it gets!

I too got a new one. The CD that comes with it is outdated. You have to got to to download the new version of their "TomTom Home". Make sure that you use the address bar..and not the search engine. Once there you will see that there is a place to download different models....again make sure that you download the proper download.

If all else the support line. I called on another matter and found their service second to none...They were only to happy to help me trough my problem....

Good luck
