Question about Creative Labs Zen Touch MP3 Player

1 Answer

Creative zen touch keeps falling over!

I'll sum up ha ha!
i get a number of problems from mine, and i hate to trash it - but might have to!
problems are:
freezes during playback
freezes in recovery mode
wont switch on
wont switch off
lock function intermittent
pc wont recognise, then for no reason it will
unsure of latest or most reliable firmware to use
cannot always activate recovery mode, and when i can it rarely makes any difference!
after all this, i find if i leave it a few days for the battery to completely deplete, the bloody thing wants to work again!
i'm running vista btw

any help / suggestions greatly appreciated, i dont really wanna lose the little bugger! thanks in advance!

Sounds like the hard drive is getting flakey. They are easy to replace if you are good with a screwdriver and are not afraid to work on stuff like that. You can also put larger capacity hard drives in them.
There are sites all over the web that give info on upgrading Creative Zen hard drive players. I have a Zen Xtra 30GB that has issues too, but before I opted to replace it with an iPod, I had a whole list of sites that dealt with hacking those players. The drives are easy to replace and they are just standard notebook hard drives. Mine has a Toshiba drive in it I think. I just read on another site that you will need to use this drive Hitachi 1.8" Travelstar model HTC424020F7AT00. I am not sure if they still make that drive but you can try finding a drive that has similar specs.
If replacing the drive doesn't work you may just have to break down and get a new player. The iPod classics are a good capacity player, and the price has come down a good bit. Plus the warranty is a year as opposed to Creative's 90 day.

Cheers and best wishes

I had the same problem....ok here's what you do, make sure the ZEN is off first then switch it on my pushing the switch down (like usual). So switch it on and press the play/pause button at the same time. It may take a couple of tries but after you get it, the screen will say "Recovery Mode" at the top. Now go down to "Clean Up" and click it. It will then ask, "Disk cleanup will be performed. Continue?" Click yes. When it's done, turn off the ZEN and turn it back on. Does it work!? Ha I'm a 13 year old genius.

When this happens to my zen player, I take out the battery and then put it back on. Then I make sure to charge it fully. Good luck.

Hello,

Have you tried to load the firmware? First you'll need to download the firmware to your PC from Creative's website: Click here. After you've downloaded it, connect your Zen via USB to your PC and open the firmware icon, then click "Upgrade."

On a Creative ZEN model, it is located on the same edge opposite the reset button hole. I just found it, was looking for mine, too. Good Karma!
