Authentication error


Had same problem - said signal weak although strong on other devices, and hung on authenticating.

Cordless phone on base unit was beside wireless router. Moved unit and turned off phone. Problem disappeared, and signal showed strong.

There are a few things thatcan cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router.1. Weak signal strength,check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move thewireless router away from brick or concrete walls and if possible locatethe wireless router higher up.2. Have you secured yourwireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? i.e. change thedefault password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID,and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC addressfiltering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s toconnect to your wireless router.3. You could be gettinginterference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arc welders,washing machines etc. If so, the power supply to the wireless routers andcomputers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, betterstill connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted PowerSupply). 4. Check the channels ofthe wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcastchannel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currentlyused but has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interferencewith your wireless router from other wireless routers and accesspoints in your area.

If by resetting you mean the wireless connection keeps dropping and reestablishing then you must likely have poor signal strength to the wireless router. The strength of the wireless signal can be greatly diminished by walls and other objects in the way of the wireless router. Best advice if your fairly close (less than 20 ft) from the router would be to invest in a wireless N router, you will get a much better signal.

How to improve wireless connection


Wireless signals often get dropped because the channels are congested or the signal is weak. Some routers / access points can scan for the least cluttered channel and some allow you to remove the standard antenna and replace it with a higher gain antenna.

Place the access point as high and as central as possible.
Try to use a free channel.
Failing that change antenna to high gain on router and PC.

(some laptops just **** at wireless no matter what you do, I have a dell m6500 that is useless on wireless)

Wireless has to shut down during online activity ... this causes me to have to reboot system. During online activity it displays the windows explorer NOT RESPONDING. Is there an update or something that...


There are a few things that can cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router.

My wi-fi keeps randomly disconnecting but is not bc a weak signal


Your card is ok. There is interference between the router and your computer.

1. The router or the PC may be "hidden" behind a metal cabinet, refrigerator, etc.
2. Move router higher
3. Microwave ovens and some cordless phones (not cellphones) that use 2.4GHz will interfere with the 2.4GHz WiFi signal.
4. Point the router antennas in-line with the direction of the PC.
5. Move the router closer to the PC.

your antenna can be seen at the bottom of the laptop. it looks like a battery of cellphone bit it has buttons for wire connections, actually it is called internal wireless card. there are many ways in boosting the wireless signal you can easily search how to boost wireless signal from youtube and you will see exaclty how it is done.

Signal dropping out when useing netgear adapter


You may find that either the signal strenf=ght is not there or there are other devices near by on the same channel as the router.

Use THIS app to test the signal strength and check the channels is use also

You may want to either move the router to a higher postion (on a shelf) or get an external antenna for it to boost range. Be aware that cordless phones are a source of interferance so thias may affect signal strength, reception etc. Put some distance between such devices and the router/widfi card etc.

What are you trying to connect your USB wireless device to?
Is it to a wireless hot spot?
or to a Wireless Access Point/Router?
When you find a connection, what is the signal strength?
I assume you have configured your Access Point correctly as well as making it secure. You should connect a computer to the Access Point using a network 10BaseT cable to check the Access Point configuration, especially the wireless configuration.

If you are trying to connect to a wireless Access Point and you have a weak signal, move your computer closer to the Access Point or move the Access Point to a better and higher location to give you a better wireless coverage. Note, walls can affect the wireless signals between the Access Point and the wireless network card and wireless USB device, especially reinforced concrete walls.
