The belts last about 15 years, less depending on usage. Sounds like it's time for a belt replacement. Check out softduds on eBay, he can replace belts and adjust these players, he has lots of experience.
Try changing the belts that control the cd mechanism. There is one belt on the bottom that drives the cd assembly and two smaller ones in the left and right of unit. One controls the cd eject function the other controls the cd selection option. This particular linear skate cd system needs to have its belts changed otherwise the motors won’t work the mechanism at all.
Generic replacement CD player belts can be found here http://www.studiosoundelectronics.com/cdlasers.htm for $1.20 each, $5 minimum order + $5 shipping. Best prices I've found so far. Follow their instructions on this page http://www.studiosoundelectronics.com/beltmeas.htm to measure your old CD player belts, then give yourself a range of belts, add one a little bigger and one a little smaller than what you think you'll need after measuring. Something in your homemade CD player belt replacement kit is bound to work for you.
You need only measure the diameter in MM and put that and "CD/Cassette drive belt" into google and you should find a supplier. A few MM either side shouldn't make difference. Drive belts etc are none specific makers by the way.
pioneer cd players have the common problem of losing their laser lens
due to the glue that holds it in place going brittle over time. try
shaking the player from side to side and upside down to see if you can
hear the lens rattling about. if you recover the lens, very carefully
slot it back in place and apply a tiny drop of glue (NOT SUPERGLUE) to
the outside edge of the lens taking care not to get any on the focus
area and leave to dry. all should be well after this. i find UHU GLUE
in the yellow tubes do a lasting fix but don't use SUPERGLUE as the
fumes will coat the lens.
