Have you tried the Canon web site. If under warranty well worth trying If not they may well offer a low cost refurbished exchange scheme

Sadly you are wasting your time as even if you can repair the lens element you lack the lens collimation equipment needed to set it up correctly.

By far the easiest, quickest and cheapest option is to sell your camera as a "spare or repairs" example and to use the funds towards another used example in good working order.

You have the added problem that when the lens did get stuck and you forced it free, you may have broken other internal lens parts. Even a professional repairer would not try to fix the lens assembly, they'd just order in a complete new lens assembly and fit that instead. The cost of the part alone, even without labour charges, will exceed the cost of buying another fully functional G5 privately.

Lens error

There is a possibility that a bit of grit or debris has got stuck in the retraction mechanism or the lens has been knocked out of alignment.

The camera will have switches inside to tell it when the lens is retracted or extended and if it doesn't make contact within the expected time then it will give this error.

If the there is no warrantee or you dont mind voiding it then I would suggest carefully disassembling the camera and turning the retraction motor by hand to see where the problem is.

Please comment again if you discover anything.

Good luck

Tip

What is the solution if the camera lens doesn't retract?

There are lot of reasons, for the camera lens to stop working. Here are some of the examples.
  • You dropped the camera down.
  • You stopped the lens from retracting by holding or pressing it down.
The result of such impacts, stops the whole lens array from working.
The solution is simple,

Tap the camera after you switch it on.(Usually an error message is displaced as "Lens Error" or "Please Switch off and on the camera again" depending on the manufacturer). If the lens retract then, you are the lucky person in the world.

(OR)

Please take it to the nearest service center.(e.g Sony, Kodak, Canon)
The repair personnel will analyze the damage and let you know the estimation to repair the damage. It costs almost 90$ to replace the whole lens array.

I believe this tip has helped you lot.please rate my tip as helpful.

The screen reads "lens error, restart camera. I can not get the lens to retract. I can not get the power to stay on. The cannon screen shows up momentairly - but fades to black and the message appears.

remove the battery, let it sit for at least 2 hours, then put it back. put the batteries back, then gentle push the lens sideways to free its stuck part. if the error still occurs and the lens is not retracting, consult the warranty for the device as the lens assembly gears may be at fault.

Lens error, restart camera

Lens error is usually caused by mechanical faults concerning lens assembly. The lens cannot extend or retract fully, the error is detected and lens error is returned.
Sometimes this can be fixed playing with the lens during extraction or retraction to help the lens asset getting back to normal.
More often the camera lens must be disassembled and re-assembled by a technician to fix the problem.

Try helping the camera to retract using your fingers while you turn camera off, try also helping lens to full extent if they don't.if you do not succeed in this simple way the camera lens must be taken apart and reassembled at a repair shop.

Fuji A607 lens will not retract or open

Hi.

That is often caused by a lens problem. The lens mechanism gets stuck because of dirt, or because of a fault.

Follow the instructions here: Lens not retracting on digital camera.

See also: Lens Error.

0013 indicates that your camera has a hardware (related to Lens) defect. When dirt gets into the lens mechanism the lens wont retract properly.. You wont believe what i have suggested for a similar problem and it worked! Its a similar lens stuck error..
