Question about Kenmore 63942 Dryer

Kenmore 70 series dryer making loud rattling noise, drying ok

Husband took off top and front - took out drum - motor is still making awful rattling noise. He thinks the shaft where the belt attaches looks wobbly - could that be a bearing going out?

We think we've ruled out the drum roller and idler pulley since the motor made the exact same loud noise even when the drum and all those other parts were removed. Any more thoughts?

It could be a worn motor bearing, but they usually last for 20 years, i would guess that you have a worn drum roller, the thing that holds up the drum and looks like a wheel.
if your sure the motor has a worn bearing then replacing the motor is not easy as you have to unscrew the blower wheel from the motor shaft.
it also may be that you are talking about the idler pulley being worn. it is the device that holds tension against the belt and they also will wear out and be "wobbly"

Loud rattling noise, but dries ok

The drum of a dryer is supported b the front and back of the unit, spins on a felt gasket. Noise is coming from rollers or their is something stuck between drum and the felts. The pulley is a piece of springy metal with a plastic wheel on it, could also be worn. If you take off front of dryer, drum will come loose, check to see if something is stuck. Common for loose change to get jambed in felts. Also spin rollers and pulley to see if need to be replaced. I still think something is caught in felt.

Dryer making very loud noise.

We had the exact same noise all of a sudden start coming from our 2 year old dryer. We checked everything, rollers, pulleys, motors, etc. I was certain it was coming from the upper left. Finally we found a loose screw had fallen into the front felt ring. Problem solved!
Good luck.
