Its not the monitor...it's the tower. As I mentioned before, I turned it on this morning and it sounds like it's running (fan sounds), but it's not starting up.

Well the tower would need to come on first to tell the monitor to come on, right?

So 'no', there aren't any 'error' messages.

I plugged my monitor into my laptop's docking and its working fine...so I'll check everything else out, with a follow-up report.

Verify that the monitor is on and that it is connected correctly. Monitor cords can often come disconnected

Are there any error messages at all on the display or is there anything that shows up on the display.

Ok you have said that the computer is making sounds like it is on right - This tells me that the computer may be on.

As soon as the computer starts to boot it will start displaying images on the screen but the monitor has to be on first - Are there notmally any lights that are on on your monitor? typically a green light or an amber/orange light.

If not make sure that the power button is turned on on the monitor - just to be on the safe side if it is already on or if it is not on turn it off and then on again.

Then look at the back of the tower and make sure that the cord that goes to the monitor is still plugged in you may want to unplug it and then plug it in again as well.

Since there are no beeps at startup when you first turn on the computer this may mean that you either do not have a post or startup issue or you do not hace a PC speaker or motherboard speaker in your tower.

You will typically get beep codes if your:

Video card is not plugged in or has gone bad

Memory is not plugged in or has gone bad

You may want to try another monitor just to verify or plug your current monitor into another computer.

You may want to start up your computer in safe mode in the event that display properties or a bad driver has changed your settings try turning on the compuer and tap on the F5 key for a few seconds and see if anything changes.

Since you are not seeing any lights on your tower and not getting any beep codes I would recomend checking your power supply, Processor, and motherboard.

Please keep in mind that of all the parts in a computer, the only part that can make everything else look broken is the power supply.

    Good Luck

Good morning -- I am having an issue with my volume - I have it on the highest possible, but my speakers aren't able to pick up much still

Does any sound at all come out of your speakers?

1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices
2. Under the volume tab, turn your "Device Volume" bar up
3. Also, click on "Speaker Volume" at the bottom and adjust both left and right speaker bars up

When I turn my Gateway Profie 3 computer on, it will not boot up and displays the message: "WIndows could not start because the following files is missing or corrupt Windows^Root^\System32\ hal.dll....

Hi There,

Sounds like you're running XP bercause the hal.dll issue is almost always an XP issue. It's not the easiest thing to fix. Most often you need access to a floppy drive and floppy disc or you have to create a bootable CD that fools the computer into thinking it's a floppy with the replacement installer for hal.dll.

I recommend you read the info at the site below and decide whether to attempt the fix yourself or get assistance at your location.

Sounds coming from desktop

Hi,

There may be several reasons for this like software conflict or may be a hardware issue.
Kindly let me know when desktop produces weird sound, I mean does this happen when you open any application or something..

But in the meanwhile, you can try the following :-

Step 1 - If you are technically sound then try to open computer tower, open sound card from the slot and put back in.

Restart your machine and check results,Kindly post your results..

Hope it helps !

Loud noise

Typical problem in most computers, the fan is experiencing a "burn out." This means there is either something caught in the fan causing it to create noise, or the motor is going bad. there are two fixes for this problem.
1) open you computer's case according to its manual and remove the system cooling fan and give it a thorough cleaning.
2) you may need to replace the cooling fan with its recommended replacement model.

Hope this helps!
